The other day I saw a guy in a wheelchair. He had nothing below the bottom of his ribcage.
I couldn't believe what I saw so I googled it, it's called hemicorporectomy. They literally cut you in half. Obviously an extreme and rare procedure. I am pretty numb to a lot of fucked up shit but seeing that dude kinda stuck with me. |

Not a half bad explanation of the procedure OP. I don't have to look it up now.

Did they at least stitch on some type of whiz-dang-doodle for him to pull on in the tub?

I am not going to lie I'm afraid to search that on Google....

Goddamn I'm not sure how I would handle that. He's been saying for a while that procedure would make his life easier. |

One of the survivors of this was doing the Spartan BEAST at my last event. Was one tough SOB that refused to give up. I knelt down and gave him a highfive, like many people around him. He was taking pictures with people. I've seen the same guy at a few of these events. Life is not being held back. He's trucking along and having a good time. He had my respect.

You are NOT your body. Your body is what you move around in this world in (kinda like your vehicle). Some have Lamborghini's, some have minivans, and some Camry's etc...
1 Thessalonians 5:23King James Version (KJV) 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Your spirit is your breath. Your soul is you (not your mind, but your heart), and your body is your flesh (I.e. What you saw of that gentleman in the wheelchair). Your souls is a bodily shape as well. Just get this video, and watch it. It will show you all about it. |

We had a couple of them around when I did residency.
One was a "do anything I can get ahold of" drug addict, and could get pretty out of control when he was high. I remember trying to restrain him one night as he is screaming gibberish. One person gets an arm, another person gets an arm... and then what? He is flopping his torso around using his arms for leverage slamming it into staff. All this with a suprapubic foley and colostomy bag slamming into folks. I don't know how the colostomy bag didn't rupture, but somehow we dodged that bullet until the haldol kicked in. |

Years ago, I was a manager at a casino. From the pit, I could see into the bar area. The bar was packed and I saw a group of college guys starting to get out of hand. I saw one guy in the group messing around on the ground, but I couldn't see what exactly was going on since his head was about waist high to the rest of the group. I called for security over the radio while looking right at the "low guy" in the group. He looked at me and then moved quickly to the right without standing up. Before I could say "WTF was that?" the security guy walked up to me, shaking his head. He explained to me that the guy I was watching was actually a torso, arms and head on a skateboard. I saw the guy later and that's all there was. Hell of a thing to see in person.

Why not? Every day above ground is a good one, and I bet that you could have a bad-ass prosthetic made for the lower half. Imagine having a lower body that was like a T-800 Terminator, for instance. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I supervised one in the joint. We called him "Bucket Man." He had a rigid plastic thing for protecting his lower torso. He got shot and tried to heal up at home. It didn't work out for him. Since he had no ass anymore, all the fat was on the back of his shoulder blades, looked like reverse moobs.

A guy I grew up with now has no arms and only one leg from him t-boning a truck with a motorcycle. I think that may be worse.

Wasn't there that half-a-gay in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly?

Jeez, here I am sitting here about having a tooth pulled and how I am gonna deal with it.

Used to sometimes go to a club in Minneapolis called Ground Zero. Catered to the bondage/goth/industrial crowd and other misfits. One of the regulars was missing his entire lower half. His thing was having women walk on him. You'd see some really tall woman off to the side of the dancefloor...then you'd realize she wasn't really that tall....she was just standing on this guy. The club eventually even set up a little mini-walkway with railings that he could fit into.

Talked to a vascular surgeon once about a hemipelvectomy (amputation of half the hip) and she said she wouldn't ever do it again cause it's better to let them die. She had done a lot to make her mind up to that point.
