Was asked to take a look at several guns left to an acquaintance . Nothing earth shattering by any means but 1  I could not identify.  I could not find a single marking on it anywhere. It has a very slow twist rifled barrel. It looks to be at least .50 cal with some sort of mauser like action. The barrel has to be at least 28" long with a blade front site and ladder rear site with graduations to 1600 meters (?). The stock has a brass butt plate with ambidextrous cheek swells. There is a sling swivel attached to the trigger guard. The rifle weights at least 25 pounds, probably closer to 30. For reference I could almost fit a loaded .50bmg into the action. It definetly isnt chambered in .50bmg but it has to be close to some about the same size.
Any ideas?

I recall something similar that the Germans fielded in WWI as an anti-materiel weapon that looked something like that.
I forget the chambering, but it was metric.
Yours looks like somebody attempted to "sporterize" it with the checkering, etc.

Neat chart!  I've never even heard of about half of those cartridges.
Looks as though the chamber isn't cut for the belt on that 13.9x99B cartridge, though.
I may be wrong, but I think the counterbore in the breech is for the bolt face..

Some sort of custom dangerous game rifle.

No proof marks?  Is there a change the owner would take the gun out of the stock to look?

The recessed stock is interesting, I wonder if that is intended to be rested on a gun bearer's shoulder while shooting.

The slow twist, single shot, large bore configuration pretty well confirms an old custom black powder cartridge African gun in my opinion.

Talk the owner into taking it out of the stock.  I'm guessing there are some proof marks on it somewhere.

Well if it was a something from the military there would be proof markings somewhere.  Take the stock off and see if there are proof markings somewhere.  Sometimes proof markings are under the barrel to keep the rifle looking clean.   But I could be wrong.  Who knows.  We will find out soon enough.

I dont think so. The bolt doesnt look right. When the bolt is open the entire top of the receiver is open. On the T-Gewehr there is a more of a "port".

For the other comments:

1. I will try to mic the barrel

2. I cannot take a chamber casting

3. I dont know if the owner will allow me to remove the barrel or know if I want to. I dont want to be on the hook if the stock is cracked or gets tore up

Suggest you post on the C&R board here or over on the Collector forum at gunboards.

The receiver is much to massive to be a GEW-88 but no idea what it is.

Receiver is much too massive for a Gew88, unless the person holding it has really tiny hands.  The geometry and shapes are wrong as well.  I've got mine sitting in front of me and there's zero chance.  Not a Gew88.

Doesn't look to be a match for the Wz. 35 Polish AT rifle, either, but pictures of it that show that much detail are hard to find.  I'm leaning towards sporterized AT-Mauser, especially with that bolt.
