A plunge cut is only a little dangerous if done correctly--you have to start with the bottom of the curve at the tip of the bar. You do NOT plunge straight in! For sure it is not a beginner's move, as you learned. View Quote |

Friends of ours had a party and someone brought one of these and left it to pick up later as it was hot. My buddy says hey, lets clean up my brush pile. View Quote Alright, you know the coolest thing about owning a small tractor? All the varied uses you can find for it. Ive done a shit tonne of things with this tractor that I never envisioned when I bought it. Just about anything I do around here I try to work it in to save my back, save time and most importantly stave off fatigue. Putting in a hard days work is satisfying, getting twice as much done with something like this is even more so. Last night before dinner I decided to take the lid off and blow out the ash and see what we had accomplished. Lid off. I simply C clamped it to the bucket. Attached File I decided to blow all the ash and debris off with a little leaf blower to assess the damage and will you look at that, the stump itself finally caught. Since it was now the actual stump burning I figured Id give the original plan another shot and.......Works good. |

So basically the OP is burning up $400 in charcoal and three other innocent trees just to get rid of a stump?
Heck, just put a flower pot on it and call it a day. |
|
Could have just rented a hydraulic stump grinder for $100-200 and been done and do several trees.

Total pain in the ass to mow around.
So far Im only out $150 total and once I get the bugs worked out it will get cheaper and faster for every stump I burn. I have met a lot of neighbors through projects like this and that has had many side benefits like people giving me stuff they dont know what to do with and a whole lot of side work fixing saws and garden tractors. I had an old guy stop by when he saw all the smoke wanting to finally introduce himself after 12yrs of seeing me do stiff like this driving by. Turns out he cant walk anymore and wants to make friends and unload some of his stuff so his fambly isint stuck disposing of it when he goes. He says he has John Deere and CASE tractors and anyone who knows will tell you the old JD and CASE tractors bring good money. Another neighbor who I shoot with, the father of the boy in the pics also met him and were going down there today, me to help with an issue he has with a tractor and him to look at buying old saws and block planes. When I built my first leaf collection system for my first KUBOTA out of basically scrap parts 3 different neighbors wanted one. Of course that was after I completely rebuilt the KUBOTA. I picked it up super cheap as it had issues which worked out good as Im someone who fixes issues. Paid $300 for the tractor and the Stealership wanted $1200 for everything I needed. In the end I refurbed as much as I could, grinding seal races on shafts and repairing broken parts. I would up only spending $300 on parts for the $300 tractor, and used it for 8yrs till we bought the new BX25, then sold the one I built for more than I originally had in it. And yeah, oxygen was the problem, will deal with next. |

If any of them are JD 140's let me know. Seriously. View Quote Interesting side note on this adventure. I got this bale of scrap wood from a recycling center, a really secure recycling center. Had to go through a radiation detector, sign a log, license photocopied and was restricted as to where I could go. They didnt tell me not to take video or to not pee on the premises so I did both. I had to pee, I wanted some video. Here tis. Failed To Load Title Now whats cool is that this was a Valuable metals yard and in the bale there were....Remnants lets say. funky lil disks of something really heavy and copper, lots of copper. Copper like I have never seen with super thick wall pipe down to plumbing fittings and fines. In the back of my truck. Theres many big pieces but they got thrown to the front of the bed before I discovered this after driving to work. The wind separated the wheat from the chaff. Attached File Attached File |
