Just got my first 14 a couple months ago, still waiting for my damn helmet to show up.
I've done some playing with friend's stuff, including bridged 14s, duals, WP and GP, and a 14/thermal bridge set up though.

Once I get my helmet I'll be able to go out and play with the 14 at least weekly, but being as this is the people's republik I can't legally get suppressors, and there's nowhere nearby that does night shooting, so I'll have to travel about 5-6 hours to do night shooting things.

Planning to bail out of state in a few years, at which point we'll also be looking for a bit of acreage.
At that point I'll be F1ing several cans and will be able to put the toys to work on a more regular basis.

They're basically adult hotdogs. More texture, super cheap, bigger (1/4lbs each), and my wife is convinced they'll give me cancer.
But wrap each one in a half-size paper towel, throw two in the microwave for 90 seconds, slap that meat in a bun, add spicy brown mustard and bbq sauce, and they're a solid "I'm too exhausted to cook anything" meal.

They used to be 16/$4 but they reduced it to 14 to keep the price the same while keeping up with inflation.

Huh?

Why is NV LARPing? Shooting coons and coyotes and walking/driving around sans white light is both useful and just fun.

And super expensive is relative; I've currently got less than $2500 into all of my NV related purchases, and probably won't spend more than another $1k on it in the next year.

10" 7.62x39 is worse bare muzzle, but the krink brake tames it down nicely.

That is why I asked about your night experience with shooting.

Too many folks, IMHO, see NV as trendy accessories and have zero training or useful practical experience with them.  It is kind of useful to know more than how to just turn on the NVGs.  Things such as: how to correctly focus them, what to look for in malfunctions, having a backup plan if the batteries or the unit fail, how the eye works at night, and how to conduct malfunction drillls, weapon field stripping, etc under poor lighting conditions.

You should enroll in BNR's NVG summer camp.  You will get to participate in challenging tasks such as re-sod BNR's lawn, paint the interior and exterior of BNR's house, and lay new tile in BNR's kitchen and dining room.  Oh, and on the last day, we'll look through some NVGs or something.

I think that's true of a lot of the internet forum/IG crowd, but not nearly all, and I still don't see how that relates to NV automatically = LARPing?

I'd find NV useful even if I had to switch to white light to shoot, just for passive navigation and observation.

That said, if I didn't have the Cola network to learn from I probably never would have taken the plunge.
As it is, I've learned quite a bit the few times I've been shooting, at the Cola Wars, and just playing around with my 14.
I can shoot pretty well out to 50yds with either laser or RDS; I haven't shot much passed that yet.
Reloads and weapon manipulations are something that can be done as dry fire at home, and I have played with that a bit; I wouldn't say that I'm super competent, but certainly better than I was.

Understood.  Perhaps I did not make my point clearly.  It is not necessarily the possession of certain gear that makes for LARPing.  It is the possession of gear with no idea how it works or how to use it correctly- and they bought it just because others have it.  I know proper NV training is tough to find outside the .mil or maybe the popo, and it seems you are making the best of what you have.

But-

"I bought a bunch of cool guy stuff to put on my helmet, and someday I'll learn to turn it on" = LARP
"I never have taken any medical training, but I participate in GD debates over how many TQs I should run in my IFAK." = LARP
"I sell air conditioning in North Carolina." = LARP

One of the guys we shoot with at night is, excuse me, was a Marines firearm instructor.

Good dude. And a patient instructor.  It was good to see him guide my 18 year old on his first night shoot.
