Well he did graduate from Purdue.
He also bought his own land, paid off his student loan on a year, and built a house himself. link |

Met him twice at gun events, once last year and once about 5 years ago at the Rifle Dynamics SHOT show afterparty where we talked for maybe 20-30 minutes about gun stuff before people really knew about his channel.
He is exactly the same in real life as he is in the videos- a bit nerdy and super friendly. I honestly am not star struck by meeting anyone in the industry (they are all just people, despite reputation), but I will admit I took a selfie with him He is a huge asset to the firearms community, no agenda other than to share knowledge and record it for future generations. You might randomly come across him if you happen to be walking around a Finnish metal music festival.

I watch his videos every day and wish I could meet him some day. His videos are fun, fresh feeling, and informative. Ian often does the gun matches in Phoenix or Tucson from what a friend of mines tells me. The same friend also told me he heard from other people that not everyone likes him. Apparently he was told that when he has the chance to shoot someone else's firearm to do a video, he doesn't clean it after, and gives it back dirty, then asks for another one to borrow. I don't know the validity of that claim as I have never heard of it elsewhere/I don't know personally, so I don't really believe it until I see it. View Quote |

I heard he was born under a star and then became a carpenter for some years.
But seriously just ask him, he's a member here. |

Ian is the man. If there's one internet gun guy I'd like to shoot with it's Ian.
|
|
He was born in an armory, wrapped in cleaning rags, and laid to rest in a weapons rack.

Love viewing his channel.
Hate how he pronounces 'Garand'. He did make some small mistakes in a video about a Gew.98 Mauser, but that is forgivable given the totality of his knowledge and work. Plus I am a Gew.98 nerd, I doubt many collectors picked up on the miscues. |

That is awesome.

His background is in making awesome videos. Shut your pie hole and sub to his youtube channel.

We spoke for a bit last year at SAR. One of the good guys, and I have the utmost of respect for his work.
I hope to run into him again this year. |

I love his videos. I can spend a few hours watching them easily.

He is a book worm on the subject.
And he’s spent considerable time speaking with the actual engineers behind the designs of guns. |

Totally agree. And I think that is WHY Iam doesn’t clean the guns, if the story is true. If you have a rare firearm, you probably wouldn’t want anyone to clean your shit. Potentially devaluing it a bunch, on accident. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I don't do GD much
But when I do I sometimes find a great thread |

I've always liked Forgotten Weapons and binge on it every so often. It was after recent FW binge session that I noticed his name in the bylines of a few American Rifleman articles. Generally, Russian stuff, SKS, Mosin, etc, etc

The entirety of youtube could go away, and his is the only channel that I'd miss.

I love watching Forgotten Weapons while on dialysis treatments.......makes the time go fast.

Have shot with him and Karl many times at the Pima pistol Club 2 gun match. They really are great people from everything I have seen. Karl and 1 other guy are the organizers for that match and really do a great job.

I suppose everyone is different, but I wouldn't be offended if I was in that position. If I have a gun rare enough for Ian to want to shoot, I'd probably prefer him to not try to tear it down to clean it in the middle of the desert with no previous practice. View Quote |

Wow, I've never seen GD universally like anyone or anything before .
Put me down as yet another big Forgotten Weapons and InRange TV fan. They're two of three channels I support on Patreon (the third being Bad Obsession Motorsport). |

I'm also a huge Forgotten Weapons fan. I check out the channel everyday and it's really rare that I don't care about whatever gun he's going over on any particular day. 99% of it I'm glued to.
I need to get off my cheap ass and throw a couple bucks at his Patreon to show appreciation I guess. Makes me wonder what kind of money he gets now from Youtube, Patreon and whatever else he does to make money to travel all over the place and shoot and edit videos all day. |

View Quote Ian was smart in his younger days and build a house completely off the grid and has no house payment as it's paid off. So he wouldn't need as much as 90% of people based on that alone. |
