Drum brake tool for the springs

<29

I dont know why people think drums are so rare, I think F150s STILL use them in the rear brakes as an ebrake. I think there are even a few econo cars that still have them in the back, both toyota and fords were I know still using them as of a couple years ago on things like the base focus and scions...

hmm, as a teenager I attempted to change the drums on my '68 camaro..needle nose pliers work great for pulling the spring...until they don't and then you get a nice gash on your knuckles...

Fuck that noise. Would rather toil with self-adjusting rear calipers that have the brake mechanism than that stupid shit any day. Both my 1G Neon and my parents S10 Blazer suffered from that shitty design. There's basically no way to get the rotors off "clean" if they've been on the car for a while, so new rotors usually always meant new parking brake shoes, too.

What are you saying, that the only reason they use them is so they can serve as the parking break too?

Speculum.

My buddy used to have one in his machinist tool box. He carried it in from when he used to build transmissions.  Conversation piece for when a female was feeling like a bitch and hounding him for stupid shit. He would pull that out and set it down on his work bench, great way to scare them away.  Though I imagine today it would offend everyone or people wouldn't know what it was.

I've probably been beaten to it but that looks like the rear drum puller used on the old Dodges etc. that had the drum mounted to a taper on the axle shaft.

That's pretty extreme.  A good quality adjustable wrench, used properly, is just fine as long as you understand its limitations.

I guess the 'used properly' is the hard part.
