One of the two lab techs in my lab is a real piece of work.  Early this morning I told him I had a unit ready to test and told him what procedure to run.  He said he was going to text the absent lab tech a question (that I'd already answered) and proceeded to go home.

I really needed that test run today.
Oh well
That's certainly his attitude.

Interesting ride home from hockey practice.

In the vein of the upcoming holidays, my son finally posed the question: Is Santa real or not? He's 9 and I know he's regarded it as improbable in recent times.

So, I answered him in stride: No, he's a myth people created to inspire hope in the spirit of St. Nicholas -- a real person.

He seemed fine with the answer and it didn't seem like a big deal as to childhood realizations until we got home and my wife found out that I broke it to him in such a casual manner.

Jeez, I asked my dad if Santa was real when I was 6 years old while we riding in his truck. He didn't hesitate to answer in so terse a manner that, no, he's a myth.

I recall appreciating his candor

Or maybe, and perhaps more likely, seeing how short they can make the barrel and still cycle the bolt.

Oh FFS

Power company went from a clunky but fully usable touch tone payment system to a fucking IVR that doesn't allow you to bypass it with the keypad.

There's a 30 second spiel at the beginning of every call telling you how much better their new system is that you can't skip.

If it doesn't understand what you said two times, it tells you to call again later.

Took 3 calls to pay my fucking bill.
