In-N-Out has applied to open a new store in the city of Ridgefield, Washington

Its famous 'animal style' burgers and fries are more commonly associated with the golden beaches of California.

But fast-food giant In-N-Out is pushing forward with its expansion into the rest of America with a proposed new restaurant in Washington.

If approved, the location will be the first In-N-Out in the Evergreen State - the ninth region the burger chain has ventured into.

A spokesman for the restaurant told DailyMail.com that the new store, in the city of Ridgefield, was 'very early in the development process.'

It is waiting for a permit from the City and would still take between eight and nine months to build once construction begins.

It comes amidst a rapid change in direction for In-N-Out which has been increasingly straying beyond its California roots.

Founded in 1948, In-N-Out is known for its nostalgic decor, fresh burgers and loyal cult following. It has a host of celebrity fans, with Meghan Markle even being pictured picking up an order from the restaurant in September.

For decades, it only had restaurants in California due to its commitment to only using fresh burger patties. It means all locations must be within 300 miles of an In-N-Out distribution center.

Its first store outside of the Golden State was in Las Vegas, Nevada which opened in 1992.

In 2000, the chain then opened a restaurant in Arizona before expanding into Utah in 2008.

Today, there are 275 locations in California, 43 in Texas and 34 in Arizona. Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Texas are all home to at least one.

Last month, it hit headlines after announcing plans to open multiple locations in Tennessee by 2026. Another is being planned in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The move would be the most-eastward expansion yet for the company.

Owner Lynsi Snyder said in a 2018 interview she believed putting restaurants in every state would take away 'some of its luster.'

'I don’t see us stretched across the whole U.S. I don’t see us in every state. Take Texas—draw a line up and just stick to the left. That’s in my lifetime,' Snyder told Forbes.

When In-N-Out first moves to a new state it typically attracts great fanfare.

For example, when its Idaho restaurant opened back in December, there were eight-hour lines for fans waiting to eat its burgers.

Some customers claimed they had even slept in their cars in 30-degree weather to be first in the queue.

Last month a poll of California's best fast-food outlets saw In-N-Out fall behind ice cream store Baskin Robbins.

Built on strong Christian beliefs, the company is known to print Bible verse on some of its packaging.

It was originally founded by Harry and Esther Snyder and is now operated by their granddaughter Lynsi Snyder.

Bible citations include Mark 3:16 on the bottom of soda cups, while milkshakes are printed with Proverbs 3:5.

If you order a burger or cheeseburger, you’ll get one verse, Revelation 3:20, but if you get a Double-Double, a double burger, you’ll get another, Nahum 1:7.

In-N-Out burgers were the second best thing about living in Orange County.    The best thing was closing the doors on the moving truck, and leaving.

I have been back to visit a few times, and always stop at In-N-Out for meal or two.

It was a small country town….30 years ago.  Since then they have been building off and on.  Lots of refugees from OR….

When they pushed the city limits East of I-5 it should have been a pretty good idea on what the city had in mind for the future.  Now it is just getting seriously built out.

Ridgefield makes sense- it will be right on I-5, next to the new Costco.  People can avoid Vancouver and the Portland North situation it has become…. The whole area used to be pretty red, but things have spread pretty badly from Portland.

If you wanted to dip a toe into WA sales, would you put a place in Vancouver, or someplace like Ridgefield, where most of the nonsense won’t be happening?

And if for those who want to bitch about OR locations- would you build a location in Portland?  I sure would not….

And a major boat launch facility in Ridgefield proper that just got upgrades and a straightened out approach.

And at the more busy roundabouts you cannot see the other side, so semis, trucks towing big fishing boats, and little cars already makes for a shitshow at times.  I am sure 10X’ing the traffic at some of the roundabouts is really going to help…

Anyone who designs a roundabout where you cannot see the traffic on the other side needs a fucking brain scan.

I agree, it’s the perfect location. Just sucks all this shit was built around our dream home. We’re still not in city limits, but still not happy when they extended city limits and started all the building. The only good thing, is our property and home have tripled in value….so when the kids are out of the house, purchasing 50+ acres and retiring in Woodland or Kalama will be easy. (Have a vacation place on the Kalama already - good little town).

They just broke ground on the second one in the Boise, Idaho area.  It's a good location, next to the mall.  The third one will be in Nampa, but will cause havoc when I want to drive over and eat at The Habit.  But, it's good to see that another well run, high paying, conservative company is expanding.

The reason why the french fries at the other outlets are crispy is because they are double-friend. The potatoes for In&Out french fries are delivered daily to the stores, and they only once fried. The Mickey Dees fries are partially fried and sent to the stores frozen, like many other burger joints; and then they are fried again which gives them it's crispiness.

IIRC, theirs are cut from raw potatoes right into the fryer at the store, and IMO, that's the problem. You normally wanna put them in water first to wash the starch off.

I know.  Grew up in Southern California.  Never was a fan of In N Out and their green crumbly French fries.

I’d rather go to Carl’s Junior for a Double Western Bacon. Fries and their fried zucchini are better.  Don’t even care if they started out frozen.  They taste better.
