and found $8million had been deposited.

Video

A man from Indiana ended up receiving what appeared to be a lottery win rather than a stimulus check.

Charles Calvin checked his bank account and found that $8.2million dollars had been deposited into his checking account instead of the $1,700 he had been expecting to cover himself and a child.

The IRS announced it had sent out the first round of stimulus payments on Saturday.

'I went to the ATM at the Family Express and once I withdrew $200 out of my account I looked at the available balance still left in my account,' he said.

At first, he through the machine had thrown up some sort of error so he ran his card again but the exact same amount was shown.

On Monday, he called his bank and was told the money was no longer in his account, although the $1,700 stimulus money was.

'It kind of sucks,' he said. 'You go from being a millionaire one second then back to being broke again. But hey, once you're poor you don't have anywhere else to go but up.'

Calvin is not sure if the readout was an error made by the federal government or just the ATM he used. Either way, he is not complaining as he received what he was legitimately entitled to.

Edit: I’d rather him have that money that most of the crap it’ll get spent on in Uncle Sugars hands.

I wonder what would happen if that error occurred on the bank account's ex-dividend date.

At least everyone now knows he’s back to having zero dollars in the bank now. Or at least $1,700 for the next couple days anyway.

Real life is less fair than monopoly. And with less valuable money & worse fiscal policy to boot.

BofA accidently deposited billions into my checking account once. Had to get approval and everything.

Used my 10 digit account number as my deposit amount. Branch manager wasn't paying attention and approved it.

If this ever happens to you, just keep your mouth shut. Don't spend it but don't report it either, just let it roll and see how long it goes.

Way back in 1975 or so I went to my local bank and withdrew $4000 hard earned dollars in the form of a cashiers check for a brand new pick up.

This was all done in a rush on a Friday to get to the dealer before he closed.

This was back when you carried around a "bank book" that showed your balance .
4 or 5 days later I noticed that the withdrawal had not been noted in the bank book so I went back to the bank , handed the book to the teller and said "you have likely been looking for me" Had to argue with them to get them to fix the balance. Somehow they had cut the check and never missed the 4K

Well if the .gov gave 8 million to every citizen of the US it would have been a lot cheaper than that 2 trillion they spent and they would have got half of it back in taxes.

How much of that two trillion are they going to get back by the time the politicians decide to forgive the loans in a election year?

Yea, that doesn't make sense.  Should have been been + or - what ever was in the account prior to the 8.2 deposit.  We know that was at least $1700 per the trump check - the $200 he took out.  Should have read 8,201,500 after his withdraw?  I have my doubts on this one.

After a big hurricane event many years ago, I received an insurance check. Then another check came for the same amount. Deposited the check but did not spend the money. After several weeks, called the company. No traction, they said you've been paid. This went on for about a year, me calling them every month or two. Finally I went all "LET ME TALK TO YOUR SUPERVISOR". The supervisor said this claim is closed. I said but I obviously got paid twice. He said "Sir, this claim is closed and we will take no further action" I said "But but, but" He said this CLAIM IS CLOSED, HAVE A GOOD DAY SIR.  And I did.

When I was in college, finishing up my last year, I ran out of money.  Not to say I was independent, but I worked the summer and tried to stretch that money throughout the school year for gas and food while my parents paid rent and stuff.  I talked to my parents, and they said they would deposit some money for me.  A few days later, I check my balance at the ATM and it's up a couple hundred bucks.  Hell yeah.  Bought some groceries, put gas in the car... then declined.  WTF?  I go check my balance and it's in the red.  Huh? I didn't spend half of it!

Turns out they hadn't deposited the money yet, there was just a banking error, which was quickly corrected.  Oops.  At least Wells Fargo waved the overdraft fees after a little complaining.

So he took out 200 and the amount left was the total that was a mistake?
So was he closing his account?

Perhaps his account balance was actually zero?

Believe it or not, some people still prefer to use cash, and perhaps he only has the checking account to make it easier to cash his paycheck, or for things like direct deposit for his tax returns.
