Does any other modern .mil allow troops to wear sandals?  They are obviously issue because you see them in lots of pics.

Does anyone know what the policy is on that.  It seems it would be really hard to run in them, which you might need to even in garrision duty  (Israel).

Barracks attire. after 1/2 on duty first thing off are the boots

Does that include going to shops and stuff armed?

Too bad the M134 is not used on the AC-130, and that's on helicopter's door mount.

There was a news article about here, IIRC she was the first female to qualify as a door gunner.

We do...

'Shower Shoes'...

Not worn outside the barracks or gym locker room, though while in garrison...

They are 'going out of style' as more and more barracks convert to individual bathrooms from the old 'locker room' style common showers....

Still needed in Iraq, where (if you're on a FOB and thus have 'normal' restroom facilities) you're using community facilities again... And there you just might see someone wearing them for the walk from their CHU to the shower trailer...

I really think that during the cold war, Americans were intentionally deceived into believing that Russian women were the "sturdy" type, babushkas,

battleaxes, whatever term you choose to use,  and that they looked like a potato with hair.     I think this was done deliberately to keep us from

taking a softer stance toward Russia.

I mean, really...if we'd known how many incredibly beautiful Russian women there were, don't you think we'd have tried to be a bit more friendly?

Russia is one place I would like to visit.  Not JUST for the gorgeous women, but be assured, they ARE a factor to be considered.

What struck me about the picture of the Iranian women lined up is just how similar they look.  Their profiles are almost identical.  I don't suppose that's

a photoshop like the one of the "alleged" multiple simultaneous Nork missile launch?

In the 1980's I would have laughed at you for such a statement, now I believe just as you.  Russian women, more specifically Ukranian women, are some of the most beautiful in the World.

I've got some knock-offs from WalMart.... They awesome.

I've worn them in backpacking hikes for short distances... Especially if it is raining and water is fairly deep.

She isn't a Gunner anymore, she was involved in a crash in Iraq during a brown out and was almost killed.  The FE on the ship was killed and her back was messed up really bad.  It ended her flying career.

Yeah - I've seen some of those shorts, and I can't believe the army actually designed and issued those.   Still, I guess when they are inside the camp, it can be pretty comfortable to have shorts to wear that are different from your gym shorts.

The crash didn't end her flying career... and she wasn't "almost killed" in the crash.  Although she did injure her back, she was back on flying status after healing up and finished her enlistment.

I was in school with Vanessa and remember the day that picture was taken... She hated all the attention she got from being the first female gunner and wanted nothing to do with it.  With that said, if there was going to be a "first" she was perfect for the job.  Humble and professional at all times she knew that she'd constantly have to prove herself and do so time and time again.
