the Colt thing is a non-starter. They'll always have a market for their revolvers and 1911s, and for a while longer yet anyway a market for guys who want a Colt AR like they carried in service.

Marlin. The original company that made so many wonderful waffle top lever guns with deep bluing and walnut. H&R/NEF. Those single shot guns with the extra barrel program they offered was great. |

Not a manufacturer, but the NRA. Calling them useless would be an upgrade for them. The only purpose they serve now is as the big boogeyman for the left. That takes the heat off the groups actually getting work done so that is something but on their own? Useless.

They were the go to for LE during those years, and immediately after until other manufacturers could get going. Ruger was so close to becoming one of these companies, then they released the LCP. Did a 180 on Bill's distain for civilian martial arms and became a go to budget manufacturer. Remington was just like them, but decided to stay the course and ride it into irrelevancy . Kimber, everyone who didn't want to spend on a Colt wanted a Kimber back in the day. I don't think Magpul has gone down hill at all, its just there's a lot more competition in the same marketplace these days. |

I hate to say it, because I still think the model 70 is an objectively better action than the 700 and always will be, but Winchester/Browning are pretty irrelevant to anyone but a certain group of hunters who still think A Bolts are something special and not just shiny turds with gold triggers. They remind me of Harley owners. The only thing keeping Browning relevant at all is their sporting shotguns, IMO. Not because they're the best or anything particularly special but they fill a niche of shotgun demand that no one else really does, particularly to the extent that they do.
ETA: I really like the Browning rain jacket I bought this year Another similarity with HD. I wonder how much revenue share Browning gets from branded clothing compared to firearms.
