Where are the safest USA areas to be in the event of a nuclear war? Would it take us out or do we have a chance if in a strategic location?

Standing on the beach with one toe in the water in Cali, Oregon, Washington

In before people think their town is a priority target because the hood latch for humvees are made there.
I am within 4 miles of a Minuteman silo, so you probably don't want to be here.
ETA: @JAD762 beat me. |
Id say midwest. Not many popular cities. Mostly beer drinking and gun loving people, sounds like safest
UMMMM... GBSD is in Utah, along with NSA. AFAIK the largest inland Naval base is in ID. Sorry.
Yeah there's totally no targets of strategic importance in either Utah or Idaho.
Also totally disregard that both states are considered to be downwinders. |
North east Utah certainly seems to be a pretty safe place from the nuke maps that I have seen. North Western MN as well.
No, we are a top priority target, we make the hood latches for Humvees.

I feel pretty safe from nukes here in BFE Kansas. Nothing but pasture and farmland for miles and miles. The very center of the US, far from oceans and borders.
Not sure if Idaho National Laboratory would be a target but it's possible.
Utah would be as good a place as any. In a nuclear war if you manage to survive it won't be much of a life.
Your not safe on Arfcom GD.
A nuke thread drops here every 15 minutes. |
As far as targets, Utah and Idaho are on the list.
As far as mountains and such to shield from blast. Utah and Idaho has some great locations for that. |
I live near the place that makes nuclear fuel and rest of my fam is in oak ridge. So pretty sure we’d be targeted. However the odds of their missiles running out of gas or stopping for directions are 87% so I feel pretty safe.
No more room in either. Especially if you’re from CA/NY/TX/NJ etc
I dont know, I am thinking a nuclear war and foreign invasion might liven things up here in SW OK
Would help get rid of some of our snakes, scorpions and spiders plus burn off some of the tumble weeds. |

No doubts about my location.
Coast guard academy , electric boat and sub base and school New London about 30-35 miles to my east with Sicorsky about the same distance off to the west. Pratt and Whitney all around me , Yeah , if it kicks off I am vaporized or glowing . I am old and slow , if it was hitting and I hit the road don't suppose I could travel far enough to make much difference. Hell of a brag! |
Op might want to do some research on Idaho.
Particularly on a place just west of Idaho Falls. |
Idaho has a city named "Moscow," so you will need to watch out for lost American missiles
Large parts of Texas are empty. Being upwind is the trick. I give myself even odds of surviving depending how many times they hit fort hood and Austin and which direction the wind travels. The whole cancer bit in a couple decades is a given.
Most likely won't be a nuclear exchange - I believe Putin will be taken out soon and this whole situation will quickly cool off. The Germans tried it with Hitler and almost pulled it off. The Russians will succeed.
Im in between Buckley AFB and Cheyenne Mountain....its going to get both bright and warm in my AO.

Looks like Eastern Nebraska and NE Nevada are the safest spots.
