TY for the explanation.  I'm not sure if that's reliable enough of an approach for me, as one or two might survive.

Destroys the surface tension of the water, they fall in and drown.

Actually only part of the explanation---liquid dish soap (Ivory works best,) diluted with water kills insects on dry land too.  It breaks down the chitin around the insects' spiracles (what they use instead of lungs,) and causes them to suffocate.

Thanks! I'll try Ivory the next time.  I know that, a few years ago, I made such a solution out of Dawn dish soap and sprayed out around the back yard based off of advice I heard on the interwebz.

Those bastards pretty much destroyed the quail population down here.  Used to hear them all the time as a kid.  I can't remember the last time I heard a bobwhite.

Curse you and your words of blasphemy! Them! is my favorite classic monster/sci-fi movie of all time. A remake with a CGI overdose and Hollywood's obsession with political correctness would be the ruination of all that is good and holy in the realm of classic cinema.

Uncultured heathen.

I was about 5 or 6 years old when I first saw that movie and it terrified me.  I was never afraid of ants, but I was scared to death of the dark.

I remember two scenes to this day.  The ant grabbing that guy from behind and lifting him up and carrying him off and the ants carrying human bones/ribcage up out of the tunnel to drop in a big pile of bones.

I saw a feat of superhuman strength due to a fire ant ball in Lafayette, LA.

I was playing rugby on a field that was under three inches of water.

Our hooker got tackled and dog piled into the water.

All of a sudden he stood up straight, throwing everyone off him yelling "Ants!  Ants!  I've got ants!!!!"

Game play stopped as we started smashing the ants to bits, using Glen as the smashing board.

He was covered in ant bites, hell we all were.

Then we finished the game.
