Neat, so that's how cork is harvested and made.

From a cork tree?

It's a species of oak that you can harvest the bark from for about 200 years. It takes about 12 years for a tree to regrow enough bark to harvest.

A neighbor’s yard.

They were tearing the place up, so they got deaded. He put the trap back out, but now a bear has found it and keeps stealing the bait. I say better that the bear flips the trap and steals the bait than getting caught and tearing the trap apart. Or necessitating a call to Mr. GreenJeans.

We had one on the farm.  Only one I’ve ever seen.  A friend from England was here, wealth of knowledge kinda guy, at my oldest boys 1st birthday party several years ago.  I was showing it to him and he said that there was a shortage of cork bc the trees were getting a disease and dying.  Later that year, my tree died.

I cut a section out of it and have it in the barn.

I'm no longer comfortable with the ethics of purchasing products made by companies propped up by a government commiting genocide, involuntary organ harvesting, involuntary abortions, and using slave labor.

And the degree of integration and opaqueness in china means that there's no way to know which companies are benefiting from these practices, so I'm just going to avoid doing business with all of them as much as possible.

Which, unfortunately is going to make some things much more expensive.
