To me the big problem is characters.  Wick One had several main characters to follow throughout the story.  Wick 2 is just lots of killing just to be killing.  I still love the first one.  Wick 2 I cannot sit and watch all the way through.

Agreed. The problem with John Wick 2 was the following:

Not enough gun fights. The first movie was gun fight to gun fight almost back to back. The second had a lot of build up to it, but the story isn't exactly all that intelligent or great. The more the focus on the silly story, the more ridiculous it all starts to feel. The first film was about pure revenge and lots of shooting action. The moment it becomes more than that and the gunplay falls to the side, the less interesting it became. I think the first movie is a classic even if the story is mediocre. The second is something you'd probably just skip to the action scenes when re-viewing.

I will certainly be interested in seeing how the wrap up the 3rd film.

Totally agree.  I found the scenes in between the gun fights to be boring and mediocre.

I've enjoyed both.

JW2 was a more behind the scenes of a hit mans lifestyle and clearly a setup for the next movie.

but John Wick was so much better.

And before the regulars come in here and call both movies mindless stupid shoot ‘em up weak plot film garbage, I recognize them both for what they aren’t.

But what the first film has is style and a fantastic cast. Willem Dafoe and Michael Nyqvist both kill it in this movie. With a pretty decent score and soundtrack and crisp visuals, I mean, how could it not have become an instant cult classic? Plus, we get to see slimey Theon Grayjoy get offed.

John Wick 2 had virtually become a caricature of the universe it created by the end of the second film. I’m really hoping that 3 takes a different approach while still preserving the style and gunplay we have enjoyed throughout the series.

John Wick 2 has a lot of Vampire movie inspiration in it.

I didnt notice it until my girlfriend said something and then I couldnt get it out of my mind.     It is like an Emo Kid got together with the Goth and Vamp kids and directed an action film.

The issue with JW2 was that it lessened the character of John Wick.

If too many people do what he does and he is so evenly matched with Common's character, it makes John less remarkable.

And instead of being a principled follower of a code as he was in the first, he now became a guy who owes his entire retirement to a debt that he never intended to pay.

So you're saying John Wick needs to be uncommon?

I think you summed it up pretty well OP. I’ve watched number one countless times. Number 2 is on HBO I think and I have no desire to watch it a second time.

Well.. she does have rather pointy elbows too.

She's good on the Orville and would have made a great Wonder Woman too.  I even liked her in GI Joe. Action and sci-fi are in her wheel house.

Do you already have the kill count for three? Or are you assuming exponential? It could be linear.

They're movies, bro. Most of them require the suspension of conscious analysis.

The John Wick movies are no harder to believe than the Star Wars or Terminator series.

John Wick exponentially outclassed Cassian; he not only killed his patron; Wick left him sitting in a subway car with a knife in his aorta,  alive only because John Wick deigned it be so.

The others who "do what he does" were piled up like cord wood; no one came close to possessing the skills that John Wick does.

I agree. Not to mention that during the subway car showdown, John Wick was already shot, stabbed, wounded to shit, no sleep, etc. and he still kicked his ass.

And while I'm here, I'll submit that I really enjoyed number two. It was entertaining as hell, though not as mind blowing as the original. Lawrence Fishburne's character was THE most annoying thing in the whole film for me.

I liked the first one better; better storyline,  better characters.  The mute dykey chick in the second one was annoying.

That said, the Baba Yaga line was stupid. Baba Yaga isn't the Boogeyman Man,  she's an old babushka witch who rides around on a hut with chicken legs for stilts. Duh...

The John Wick franchise is easily the best contribution to cinematic gunplay in the last decade. How anyone could be so incensed to be compelled to shut it off mid viewing is beyond me.

That would be amazing. They'll have one nice little final exchange as Jimmy is dying as a nod to the true fans, the ones who go all the way back to the old school shit.
