My old Model 28. I bought it as a box of parts for $300 a dozen years ago. Once I got it fixed and back together, I had it cut for moon clips, added an SDM front sight and Millett rear, and Miculek grips (which I ground away a little for reload clearance). I've put at least 30,000 major power factor loads through it. She looks rode hard and put away wet, but still shoots well. One of my favorite guns.

If no, then unless you are sitting on a nice stash of .41 mag ammo, you're better off getting a nice model 29, same gun in more common caliber. View Quote I nearly jumped on one at LGS but the 29 is the one I really want. Thank you for bringing me back to reality. (Although, a “set” a of 29, 57, and 27 does sound fun doesn't it?) |

Quoted: Compact service revolver View Quote I think his point about speedloaders working better with the 6/7 round revolvers vs the 5 round J-frames is a very important factor when choosing a revolver for CC. I do love my J-frames, but reloading with speadloaders is difficult enough without the stress of someone shooting back at me. |

Can I screw a barrel on myself? Depends on where you send it. I think my Karl Sokol m10 still came in under 1k including barrels, frame and refinish. Numrichs has a 2" nickel barrel that should fit. Add in a refinish and I bet the whole thing would be under $500. Or grab one of the pd trade ins from guns .com and cut the barrel down. I've seen people file their own dovetail for the front sight. |

Help me chose new grips for the 2.5” Model 19. Both are made by Ahrends, leaning towards the top pair.

I'm not following you. Yes? From a value standpoint? It’s a couple hundred bucks right? $175 for the machining. If you're not going to use it much, it's not worth it. If you run tens of thousands of rounds through moonclips, it very quickly amortizes. From the pic of my gun, you can tell I got my money's worth. |

Got out for a little trigger time yesterday. I shot the 44 Super Blackhawk, the Smith 60, 65, 617, and the old Colt Cobra 3".
I was amazed at how comfortable the blackhawk was, even shooting the 340 grain +p+ Buffalo Bore stuff. The 65 was very accurate, and the 617 was just too much fun. I was on the fence about buying that one, now I'm realizing that I need to stock pile a boat load of more 22 ammo! Old Painless is right, shooting stuff is fun. |
