I just came to the startling realization that I don't currently have an all-steel J frame class .38. This is absolutely unacceptable. Looks like I'll be on the hunt for a model 36 or 60, or maybe an older Rossi or Taurus...

A Dan Wesson w/ the adjustable cylinder gap would be a good one to test.
Given a particular shell type, one should be able to shave a Taurus Judge or S&W Governor cylinder, and screw a custom bbl real close to the cylinder. The .410 shell opens up and seals the gap. It's plastic, so will flex and allow the cylinder to turn, but it's a tiny gap and the shell mouth won't flex much, so the DA trigger pull or hammer cock will be worse than an original Nagant - unless you make the necessary parts to convert a modern revolver lockwork to push and pull a .410 cylinder in place. If you do that, would probably be better to make a .38 Special cylinder shaved for wadcutters, and do it that way. |
