It actually makes sense and isn't that surprising now that I think about it.
There are 2^20 = 1,048,567 individual people you can identify in 20 questions assuming those questions can mutually exclude them from each other. That's a lot of people, and most people aren't going to guess something too obscure. When you list all of the famous people you know, they won't approach anywhere near 1 million. Then it becomes a simple matter of structuring the questions such that they get you the most bang for the buck early on. Male/female, alive/dead, etc - you can whittle down the possible answers really quickly. Then it becomes a matter of choosing follow-up questions based on the answers previously given to quickly get to the solution. Any obscure answers it can't find, and it asks you to input the data making it much easier on subsequent searches. The more people play, the more accurate it becomes. With additional questions, the number of people it can remember grows exponentially too. [ETA] It will have a more difficult time with "related" characters. It guessed Zhukov in 20 questions, but what if I had been thinking about Rokossovsky or Konev? That's tricky - hence more questions are needed. |

BHO in 20... but not before guessing "The Anti-Christ" at 16 I tried it too and got the anti-christ after 14 then BHO after 18. It's getting smarter. Picked "probably not" for is your character an American citizen, "probably" for is your character a Muslim and "probably not" for was your character born in the US. Once I told it anti-christ was wrong, it zoomed straight in on politics. Last question was "is your character dark skinned". |
