His reputation and almost all of his relationships will be ruined, but that's enough money to move to a far away tropical paradise and live like a king.

Definitely a better ending that most diddlers get.

Unless he buys a huge house in FL like OJ had.

There are all sorts of little tells and "alarm bells" that go off when preparing and auditing a tax payer's tax return.

It's interesting to see the look on a taxpayers' face when you can tell them their entire story (which they were trying to hide from you) from a few key details they did not think mattered in the slightest.
If possible, could you share some of those alarm bells for those of us fortunate enough to have never worked with/been around sexual predators?

I knew an FBI agent who worked child porn cases.   I could never do his job.

The big one is an inability to navigate the adult world.  Child sex predators often feel more comfortable with children, uncomfortable with adults.

The middle aged successful male with family, friends, and age-appropriate interests is relatively rare in the child sex offense circles, though it does happen.

However, the number that can't hold a conversation with an adult, or even know how to act with other adults present, is very telling.

So if you have someone that just seems "off" around you?  Yeah, keep your eye on them.  This also goes for women, too, by the way.  There are women that are sex offenders, too, and I'm not talking about school teachers with 17 year old male students.

And also an adult male that is still "caught in adolescence" can cross the line.  So, a guy still living in his mom's basement, lots of games and toys, AND NO ADULT FRIENDS, is another indicator.  If a 35 year old basement dweller has lots of 14 year olds as friends, and no real adult friends, watch out.

It used to be a joke around here 20 years ago that just about every child molester that was being caught lived in his mom's basement and drove a blue volkswagen Beetle.  Seriously, they caught like 10 guys in one year like that.  It was oddly specific.  Doubt it's that way anymore.

The thing is, a majority of those guys "caught in adolescence" were sexually abused themselves as adolescents.  From that they lose trust of adults and stay in that youth phase, unable to move forward.  However, they still have sexual desires, and they act them out on the people they feel comfortable with.

You're painting with a pretty broad brush.

If all they had on him was sex with a 17 YO prostitute, not many people would give a shit, and he wouldn't be copping a plea and taking the significant jail time.

They got him dead to rights. He knows it, and the Feds know it.

The cash settlements are to head off further civil suits.
I'm sure the receivers are signing their rights away to sue him.
His wife will get the rest.

Maybe when he gets out, he can work as a sandwich artist at Subway

I still say he will off himself before he spends a day in jail. He's out on a ankle monitor now, I think.

A 17 year old I dont have a problem with (except the fact she was a hooker, but thats another topic) but the fact he was asking the escort services for 14 and 15 year olds??? This guy needs to be violently raped in prison on a daily basis until he cant tell the difference between his butt and a test bench in a plunger factory....

What a complete POS... He had it made, and then he's a pedophile...

I wonder if the liberals will be protesting subway and saying eating at subway makes people pedophiles...

Some guy checking out from reality, living with his parents and playing video games?   Yeah, I  can kinda, sorta understand people wasting their lives doing this.

Sexual abuse at a young age seems to be a common denominator regarding many "issues" people seem to face.

A child is sexually abuse by a grade A P.O.S. who in turn grows up to molest children thus repeating the cycle.   Lovely.

However, even the kids have an inkling of this is wrong, but they haven't been trained to trust in that feeling and act on it.  I honestly think that parents should sit down and people watch with their kid, asking the kid, "What about him?  Freak or not?" and have the kid respond.  If they get it all the time, good, if not, keep pointing out the weirdos until the kid spots them on their own.

There was a case where a sheriff's deputy in the 60's molested teenage boys that he caught breaking the law in exchange for him not arresting them.  One of them as an adult started a dancing school in the 80's, where he molested teenage boys.  And some of those teenage boys grew up to molest boys in rec center athletic programs in the 90's and 2000's.

Of course, it was a case where the recent kid victims were discovered, and tracing back the behaviours the DA was able to bring more people into it.  The dance instructor and the deputy walked though.

It was like some kind of weird vampire bloodline thing where you had one initial vampire infecting others, and generation by generation, it grew and grew.

Had that deputy been stopped in the 1960's, no joke, hundreds of victims would have been spared.  And why he wasn't stopped (he was actually caught back then) is another story about class and southern politics that will turn your stomach.  But that's a tale for another day.

Because the age of consent is set by law and custom, not some derivative of the cosmos?    I can't understand how that point can be missed really.

Yep. All of the above. Soon it will just be "his preference". Totally normal, right?? Born that way. Not his fault. His rights are being trampled!

That's what's "interesting" about pedos who are GUILTY... they rarely seem to have the conscience that allows them to feel enough guilt to eat a bullet -- even if just to avoid the suffering of incarceration, etc. Of course, lack of honor is pretty universal among the criminal element anyways.

I was raised in a religious family. A big part of many religions is the condemnation of pornography. I get it, in terms of the damage that it can cause to families, relationships, etc. Anyways... I was feeling particularly guilty regarding my viewing of porn (large-breast-centric) at one point in my young life and went to my clergy and "confessed". He asked if I'd ever viewed or felt compelled to view child porn. I said "ABSOLUTELY NOT... I WOULD KILL MYSELF BEFORE THAT EVER HAPPENED.". And I meant it. But of course, that's because I'm a NORMAL red-blooded male who desires WOMEN, not children. Kiddie diddlers don't seem to feel guilt over their sexual trigger. They really are like a sick animal. I don't see how you can really reform a pedo. You might be successful in getting them to understand that they will pay severe consequences for their actions if they choose to act... but you won't change their sexual trigger to be something different. Just like you won't convince me not to drool over big boobies. Or a gay guy not to drool over some nasty hairy man-butt.

Years ago when I first saw those subway commercials I thought the guy gave a odd vibe . I thought possibly it was just a result of him being socially awkward because he had grown up so big .

Wonder if the overeating and bad self image was the result of somebody messing with him as a kid ?

Regardless of the reason , broken and twisted still bad no mater what might have kicked it into gear

I was pissed when I saw $100,000 to each victim. That won't even cover counseling, much less the emotional trauma. Of course, he is probably not the only one that victimized them. Then I thought, his admission of criminal guilt opens the door for civil guilt. I think even if the wife gets all his money in the divorce, it will not be exempt in civil court, because it could be argued that he is trying to protect it for his assets from, the victims. I also wonder is Subway promising to take care of his wife and kids in return for him to take the plea.
What do the lawyers here think?

I never liked him. Actually, I always wanted to punch him in the nose when I saw him on TV. He had that oddness about him and I never could figure out why Subway had this strange fascination with him and made him the creepy face of the franchise.

If the judge accepts the plea, 12.5 will be the possible max.
A prosecutor recommending a sentence does not mean that is the maximum sentence.

The plea and the agreement the U.S. attorney made to recommend a sentencing maximum of 15 years are two different things.  Judge can accept the plea with the proper colloquy and then sentence how he sees fit.

And max will be a hair over 12.75 actual time in camp (be real, he'll be in a prison camp) if he is sentenced to 15.

I'm sure Subway will breath a sigh of relief that this doesn't go to (a very public) trial.

What exactly does that term mean? I remember that term used in Boondock Saints... and never figured out what it means.

Not sure if that's true or not.

I don't understand the muddled bullshit reporting about this issue, I suppose.

They say he had sex with a minor, a 17 year old, as if that's a crime.  When it wasn't a crime in that state at all.

Hell, having sex with a 16 year old is legal in 30 states.

If he plead guilty to having sex with someone properly below the age of consent, that's fine.  But what has been reported does not meet that requirement.

Not defending him, but the only person that the article says he had sex with was the 17 year old, in New York City.

The age of consent in New York is 17.  He did not break the law.  It's probably not right, but other than paying for the sex, the age is not a legal issue.

That he was trying to find someone younger is very bad, but it didn't say if he actually had sex with anyone under age.

I have friends that are escorts (won't post pics, don't ask) and they do get clients that want younger girls.  It's not an uncommon request.  The answer is always "no".  Totally skeeves an escort out when you ask that since most of them were sexually abused as young girls.  One of my friends had a client, a local college professor that I knew (went to church with him and his family), that would have her dress up as a young school girl and come to his office at the college so he could play out a teacher-schoolgirl fantasy.  He didn't actually want a young girl, just someone to pretend who could look the part.  My friend still couldn't stomach it and she stopped seeing him.  I think a Lolita fantasy is somewhat common among older men for some reason.

It would not surprise me that even though he was asking, Fogler couldn't find anyone that would help him out.

Now, the child porn thing?  Yeah, he's probably caught dead to rights.  Actual sex with someone under age?  That seems more gray.

What part of pleading guilty do you not understand?

Look up the Mann Act.  It's a federal crime to cross state lines in order to have sex with an underage minor, and I believe since it's a federal law it doesn't matter the age of consent in the state the act took place in.

17 is the age of consent in many states

You can legally fuck a 17 year old, but taking a picture of them naked is illegal.

Our legal system is wonderful.

Minors can't consent. I have no idea why the slippery slope crowd keeps glossing over this incredibly important distinction.

Traveling across state lines to fuck a 17 year old is a federal crime.

Spill the beans against who?  The guy who was providing him all of the child porn is already sitting in jail and is going to plead guilty.

Apparently that's also what he was looking at to end up in this situation in the first place.

I kept expecting Will Hayden to off himself. I expect Fogle will kill himself but we'll see. I believe that the wife knew more than what she let on. Maybe not the kiddie porn stuff but if he had a huge porn collection I'm sure she was aware of it

This very well could lead to the possibility of Subway going under. Subway no longer is the "Only game in town" for "healthier fast food".

And honestly, their quality leaves a bit to be desired. It often does smell of rotting vegetables.

The Mann Act makes it illegal to transport the under age person across state lines to have sex with them.  Or, to take an adult prostitute across state lines to have sex with them.

Travelling to where they are to have sex with them is not a violation of the Mann Act.

The article states that he travelled from Indiana to New York to have sex with the 17 year old.  The article does not state whether she lived in New York or he transported her there with them.  One is a violation, one is not.

I ate there last night. Anyone that would boycott them over what some guy they used for marketing did is a tard

Also, "rotting vegetables"? Is your subway in the ghetto or something?

I think Subway is one of the nastiest national fast food chains.  I could win free Subway for life and I'd still never eat there.  However, there is not a chance in hell this is going to cause them to go under.
