It started showing its age in an era of texting and emojis.

Many children no longer learn to write cursive in school, noted marketing consultant Laura Ries. People may recognize the signature, but they weren't necessarily reading it, she said. The new logo, she said, is easier to process.

"Because it's easier, it almost even draws your attention to it," said Ries, who wasn't involved in the logo change....

Its to make us happy. They learn it for a week or two in school and never, ever use it again. My kids are 16, 12, & 10 and all learned cursive but have never used it since that lesson and they will forget it very quickly.

Cursive is dead unless you make people use it on a daily basis.

Why should they force them to use something that's dead? Make it an elective in high school. Obsolete skills are a waste of educational time otherwise.

The case could be made for artistic and cultural purposes, but whether or not that's worth using limited instruction time for is questionable. Being the scrooge that I am, I think we should just move to a six day school week and cut the length of summer vacation. Then kids will have plenty of extra time to learn cursive and read sun dials and what not.
