Had another major surgery last Tuesday. Spent 8 days in hospital and just got home yesterday. Was given Ketamine after surgery. Jesus. It's going to take me a week just to get the words to describe it.

I’ve seen a guy lick the inside of a non rebreather like a dog trying to get peanut butter out of a glass bowl after being put in the k hole. It was amazing.

Will be interesting to see what surprise deliveries turn up in the next few days
Feel better soon ! |

I was going to recommend this book Ketamine: Dreams and Realities by Karl Jansen but maybe the Kindle version would be better at the moment. I should list my copy for $750.

Is it better than China meow meow, Kathmandu Catchem, monkey white, Captain Cody Cody or Mexican pancake syrup?

Had it twice. Both times in the hospital.
I had no concept of...anything. Most surreal stuff I've ever experienced. Didn't know if I was alive or dead. Everything was yellow or orange and a square, circle or triangle. |

During day surgery earlier this year, was asked what sedative/pain med I’d like, anesthesiologist recommended ketamine, so that’s what I got. Before starting the procedure, Dr asked me what music I liked, said classic rock, she said “all right!” Was in and out of conscious, in a dreamlike state, found the meaning of life, sang along with songs, had the docs chucking. Don’t remember all the details, but it was a a great experience. |

Quoted: I thought that was a purely recreational drug? View Quote No, it's pretty common in modern medicine and it's also being studied and used in the treatment of migraines (as mentioned), depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc. with overall very good results (sometimes in higher doses, often in subclinical doses). See also LSD, psilocybin and even MDMA (ecstasy) which are also being studied in degenerative neurological diseases. Stupid autocorrect. |

I had it during one of my many surgeries and talk about having a bad reaction. If you have a semi or full on Obsessive-compulsive disorder or just a control freak like many engineers, it can be a bad trip. It seemed the more I tried to control stuff the more out of control everything got. Even after i woke up I was seeing stuff like nurses pulling bananas our of the glove dispenser on the wall.
I had it a few times later in other surgeries and did not experience any of the bad reaction so not sure why I did the first time. |

Quoted: Isn't that a horse tranquilizer? View Quote We use it in the ED all the time. Works great for procedural sedation in kids, we usually avoid it in older patients because they get nutty. At low doses, we use it for pain. Mid doses are dissociative, and high doses are sedative. In trying to get away from opioids, it’s been very helpful. |

Quoted: On a scale of 1 to 10, how addictive is that shit? View Quote I'd say it depends on what type of personality you have. It's primarily a dissociative experience that can supposedly approach a euphoric one just before the proverbial "k hole" (which is generally not a pleasant experience from what I've read and heard from patients). In higher dosses it's a "trip", but not the same as a true psychedelic trip. In theory, it can be psychologically addictive since it messes with your dopamine system (like most recreationally abused drugs) but not really physically (like say alcohol), at least in short term usage, so someone with an addictive type personality or someone looking for some form of "enlightenment" or spirituality may be more drawn to it. Long term usage can lead to bladder problems including the inability to urinate. It's been a while since I read that book I listed and more research has been done on it since then so things may have changed some. |

One of our division chiefs got ketamine from a doctor for a procedure related to a heart rhythm.
YOU DONT WANT TO SEE A BAD KETAMINE TRIP!! |

I had the rest of my wisdom teeth pulled two years ago, I dunno what the fuck he gave, but I was having a trip in the chair waiting for him to do the procedure. He gave me a second dose to do the actual procedure and I was out, but before he started, I was sitting there having orange psychedelic visions from the 1960's and I wasn't even alive back then.

An anesthesiologist used some on me during a surgery to remove a growth from my side. I didn't like it at all, it made me feel very disoriented, dizzy, and the dizziness persisted after I was released from the hospital. I almost fell a couple of times at home after the surgery because of the lingering effects of the ketamine.
The next time a doctor asked me about it I told them I had a bad reaction to it and don't fancy the possibility of falling after discharge because of it. |

My better half calls it "Surprise Naptime." Jokes aside, it's one of her favorite tools in her toolbox.

Our vets use a ket and torb cocktail for gelding, dental extractions and other involved but not full surgical procedures. It's good enough to apparently make those procedures enjoyably so it must be pretty good.

Man I never get anything fun
I thought for sure I was going to be flying with Jesus when they gave me some fentanyl last time around I didnt feel shit except a whole bunch of pain in my broken ass leg and a tiny bit of head fog Suppose I should be thankful that opioids dont really 'kick' for me. |

A squadron mate of mine was in a helo accident and burnt. He said they gave him something that made everyone turn into tron the movie. WTF was that? Navy docs gave it to him.
