Democrats don't want the Freedom Caucus platform implemented either. Seems fairly likely that some Dem votes will either switch to McCarthy or to Present.

McCarthy is supposedly trying to broker that deal right now.  Rather than concede to the Freedom Caucus of his own party.

Says a lot.

How dare people demand bills be read before being voted on. Those lunatics demanding that are crazy!!!!

It is the Freedom Caucus not voting for McCarthy because he is not doing anything that they have asked for.

The Freedom Caucus is pushing a rules change proposal that would require all legislation to go through committee and be public for more than 72 hours before being voted on.  The group also is pushing for a ban on bills being tied together and passed en bloc.

Sounds appropriate to me, give us time to weigh in, give them time to take stock rather than just voting how leadership tells them to.

He's right on impeachment. Impeaching a President with zero hope of having the votes to convict in the Senate is retarded, impotent, grandstanding. Investigate the fuck out of him, but sending articles of impeachment to the Senate that have no chance of being approved is dumb. It's also the way the GOP loses 75% of its support in the heartland, and that means an awful lot of people in DC not being in DC anymore. Kind of hard to make your 10% that way.

Meh, it's not like we're getting any good legislation passed.  Every second a democrat or one of their minions is tied up with it will be one less second they are using to further destroy what's left of this country.

1. For an awful lot GDers, everything in life is about Trump. This has pretty much nothing to do with him. Move on. For everyone who said DeSantis was now the leader of the GOP, where is he on this?

2. If KM does partner up with the Dems, I guess we'll have to hear that's the conservatives fault that KM gave away the farm for his personal glory and power.

3. Statists always think you need to take one for the Team - they never think they should make any sacrifice.

4. The sad thing about #2, most of the GOP conference will nod, and say it had to be done, and sheeple along.

Trump is, and always has been, very quid-pro-quo.  He backs, endorses or promotes people with the expectation that they will owe him and will reciprocate when he needs it.  Someone with no power, no authority - nothing to give him he doesn't already have - is of little use to him, no matter their value to the country or party.

He probably needs to let the people he's promoting know that...

Don’t see voting “present” is going to work out.  If Republicans vote present or don’t vote, that means McCarthy loses this votes.  If all Dems vote for their guy, then you have a Dem speaker again.  If Dems start voting present or not voting to get the total to win down, that will piss off a number of Republicans who will swap their vote from McCarthy to the other Republican candidate.  Either way McCarthy loses, and no speaker.

If some republicans are waiting until the end to vote, it’s to see if the Dems start playing the present/no vote game.
