Birddog1911,

That is one sweet Rossi 92! I love the looks of the long octagon barrel......and the wood grain on the stock is beautiful.....

Here are my lever guns. Starting from the left:

2) Winchester Model 94 Trapper .30-30

3) Winchester Model 94 Packer Carbine .44 magnum

How do you like it?  Have you tried .38 as well as .357 through it?  I started hankering for a stainless lever action (in .357/.38) and came across the 1894 CSS from Marlin only to find out they stopped making them a few years back, but have yet to update their website.  I'm curious about the Rossi as they seem to be the only game in town, but from what I gather putting a scope on the 92-style is slightly more difficult than an 1894.

Very smooth with 38's, 357's require an extra couple pounds of pressure on the lever back stroke to chamber.  I wouldn't call it a "hitch", but you'll notice that you have to overcome some additional friction. I believe the nose of the bullet in the longer cartridge is rubbing on the chamber wall while being chambered. I've tested WWB and Aguila 38's and a half dozen different 158gr 357 HP's, including Winchester, Golden Sabers, PMC (JSP's), and Aguila,  I could imagine feeding problems with a cartridge much longer than these, but I didn't have any trouble.

Very light, very well balanced, snaps to the shoulder nicely, 100% reliable at 350 rounds.  I don't know why people complain about the safety, it's unobtrusive and easy to manipulate.  Plinking with 38's was very enjoyable.  As light as it is, not being a semi, and having a steel buttplate, felt recoil is pretty snappy with 158gr 357's, you will be adding a pad if you're recoil sensitive.  Fit and finish look great at six feet, but if you look real close some of the money you didn't spend ($438 new) will become apparent in the barrel bands and the wood.

Nice!  I'm picking up a .357 Blackhawk next week.  I'll have to take a picture of it with my 1894 in .357 (The whole reason I'm buying it)

So do you guys reload for your .444s?

I was at my dad's place today and there was a .444 sitting there - he'd neglected to tell me he bought it because he knew I'd been wanting a lever gun and he wanted to see my face when I spied it sitting there.

The guy who sold it included some ammo (we shot it a good bit today) and reloading dies, and I have a can of VV133 that appears to be an awesome powder for it according to the Speer manual. Is this correct?

1913 Winchester Model '94 in .30 WCF that I inherited from my cowboy uncle.  This rifle rode the cattle range on horseback in a saddle scabbard out in Colorado during the 1920's & 30's.  It hasn't been shot much, but the wear from the years of being toted around is obvious.

Rossi Model 92 Saddle-Ring Carbine .38 /.357 Mag., purchased in the early '80's.  Light and very accurate.  Fun to shoot!

The Leupold Mark AR is a good fit on my 1894c.

I gotta get back to the reloading bench if I want to play with these tomorrow.
