Not long out of college I got my first real job in East Texas. I hung out with a lot of other officers, including our Chief, who was the son of the retired Chief Deputy for the county. So as part of that I was around a lot of old LE including some Rangers. This guy reminds me a lot of some of those older/retired officers. Solid dudes, but even when they were friendly they made you a little nervous and you always wondered about what they -didn't- tell you.

I'd love to hang out and drink some beers with his character in that movie. That was probably my favorite part of the movie.

What I liked most about that scene was the fact that there was no great effort made to explain his character.
He knew a lot though...

In real life, I'm a BIG skeptic of conspiracy theories.  But in the movie, Levon Helm made me BELIEVE

That's the essence of damn good story telling for you - getting you to suspend reality and believe in the story.

One thing that I never understood about that movie is they already had his rifle, so why go through all the voodoo about reshooting a bullet?

Because his rifle wasn't plug'n'play with the remote mount, and they needed his rifle at the "scene" for evidence.

Really enjoy him in everything he played. My favorite scene in Shooter also.  They also said artificial sweetener is safe, WMD's was in Iraq, and Anna Nicole married for love!

Yeah … wasn’t a fan of The Band, but just rewatching that scene, all I can think is “they needed to make a prequel just telling his story”.

I think what's funny (or maybe not) is that the past 18 months of world history have told me that what was once "crazy conspiracy theory" is actually quite likely true.

"They" were once a punchline for jokes told by crazy old loons, but as we've learned "they" are real, everywhere, and lying straight to our faces every day.

Yes he was. Kind of a sad role--an old man who depended on his son to bring him supplies. Then the son stopped coming: something something cancer something something.

Did you actually watch it? or have in on in the background while surfing the internet? If you watched the movie it was pretty clear why they did what they did...

This.

Too bad Marky Mark ruins that movie. As soon as I pulled up OP’s movie clip and that midget pops on acting all tough it’s cringe worthy. He’s right up there with Nic Cage for worse actor ever.

I grew up in the same county he was from. Wish I had known more about him when I was younger.

When I was a kid I would occasionally  hear someone say that they saw him around town and I had no idea who he was.

Their *real* shooter had to shoot from somewhere else, to minimize risk of getting caught. For their plan to work, the shot was supposed to be fired, and then Officer Timmons discovers Swagger and the "murder weapon" at the FAKE scene, all while tur bad guys are busy removing all evidence from the REAL scene.

You can't put the REAL shooter and the "murder weapon" at the same place - too much possibility of getting caught, leaving evidence, etc.

The book is way, way better.
