When you ban someone is it the sole discretion of the one doing the banning or is it a group effort?
Just curious |

I believe any of the mods can nuke you. Then you have to convince that mod to let you back in if you want back in.

Get both.
It really depends on the situation. Mods don't ban people, but can request one. This normally leads to a group discussion. Staff can lock a member without discussion, but a notification is sent to accounts, which are reviewed by Sr Staff. Sometimes a Staff, Sr Staff, or Admin will request a discussion about a lock. ETA: We have checks and balances even if you don't get to see them most of time. |

Life members require a meeting of the minds for all but the most egregious violations, but I can't recall the exact details. All other members can have their account locked by a single staff member, probably subject to review if it's an otherwise well-regarded and long time active member. Moderators can't lock an account.
Its been discussed at length in other threads, but I'm too bored to care enough to remember the nuances. |

On some forums, it's a point system... Less organized setups just do it on the whim, usually forums that tend to be biased one way or the other.

[James Brown] I'm concerned because there's nothing wrong. [\jamesbrown]

I would say it depends on the circumstances. There are some things, as I recall, that are pretty much insta-ban.

Dammit, I won't be up from 2-4am tonight. We all know that's when all the good stuff happens. Wow, those early morning recap threads!
