There are things worthy of emulating in British culture. The cuisine is not one of them.

The Heinz beans from the UK are very, very good. A bit expensive when you compare them against the domestic baked beans brands like Bush's but it's worth it for a treat once in a while. Fry's Food (Kroger) usually has them.

Aren't there supposed to be a couple tomato slices with it?

I do beans on toast at least once a month.
Van Camps pork and beans, I’ve preferred good sourdough for the toast, and generous butter on the toast.

Comfort food.

Beans on toast is not my thing, but an English breakfast can be pretty damned good after a night at the ol' pub.

Tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon, some sausage and eggs and the toast gets a thin layer of butter with either jam or marmite.  You can use the toast or your knife to push the beans on the fork.

I'm a pretty open minded person when it comes to food but even I don't know if I can endorse beans on bread.

I'll use my sourdough next time I make it.

This was sprouted seed whole wheat bread, so had some flavor.

Throw in a tiny can of diced green chilis. Thank me later. I like baked beans but not on bread.

I prefer two hotdogs split and fried, covered in chili with beans, and some shredded cheese on my bread.

When I was working in Australia folks here used to ask how the food was.  I'd always reply, "very British, and you notice you never see any famous British restaurants or anyone talking about going to British cook school or classes".  It's not that it's bad, it's just bland which I assume is why Indian, Malaysian, Indonesian, etc. were so popular there and in England.  Just based on my own experience working with a fair number of Brits and Aussies over the years, most I've met don't tend to like hot spicy either.

They're in the small "international" section where they keep the kosher stuff. The Heinz beans have more tomato flavor, less brown sugar sweetness than the US baked beans.

My Father would buy only the 8oz. can no matter how many mouths he had to feed, he said it taste different and cooked in a double boiler, or put an unopened can in a pot of boiling water with the label peeled off.

Had many a meal with beans on toast with butter and pepper with him.

P.S. He came over from Ireland.
