I've always said if people were really serious about reducing carbon emissions they would adopt nuclear on a large scale.

Not as cheap as natural gas but there is a chance that could improve with economy of scale.

Correct.  NG has the carbon emissions though.

I personally feel we need more carbon emissions it would be a positive for humans. Runaway anthropogenic global warming is bullshit. We will soon be facing another ice age.

If GE guaranteed enough under the table kickbacks to the biden crew tonight the entire MSM would be awash next week with news of our current US Gov's new investment in a ultragreen environmentally safe and renewable neutron driven clean and climate change reversing energy source.

Hunters astonishing grasp of energy synergies will be indispensable in spearheading this new tech!

14 !  That seems like pretty much an admission that "green renewable" energy sources just ain't cuttin' it. Now who'd a thought?
Solar panels and windmills are cool for supplementary power, but the technology just isn't there for primary base power.
Nuclear is the way to go.

that paper doesn't seem to be any sort of breakthrough in fusion power generation.
there was another story about actually getting more energy back from the reaction that is more promising though
View Quote

'More energy back' is not the same as 'more usable grid power than we put in'. Still waiting for how we get spin from fusion that doesn't involve boiling water into steam with all the same issues as a steam loop from fission plus some extra. And we already have steam powered spin systems. If anything, fusion is more nasty than fission, because a lot of the energy comes out as hard gamma and X as well as fast neutrons. If you think inside a fission reactor is hard on pipes and welds, wait till you see what the fast neutrons from fusion will do.

Politicians and corporations are adverse to nuclear power because the financial payoff doesn't come until 20+ years after they are built. From that point on they are gravy. But governments/corpos don't want to raise taxes now to pay for cheap clean electricity 20 years from now because it doesn't help them get reelected or get their big short term bonuses.

Who was it that said: "What's the best time to plant a fruit tree? 20 years ago. What's the second best time? Right now."

Just in the nick of time. They are going to need all that power in a week and a half when the Russian gas gets shut off.

He's right - nukes are the only way to produce clean energy in the abundance needed to achieve electrification of transport.

In this instance, Macron isn't an idiot.

There should be a nuclear renaissance around the world. If the greenies are serious about cutting CO2, they can't dismiss nuclear.

Remember when we had one of those going and everyone was high-fiving each other?  We were all set to build more nukes around the world when the Japanese got caught with their arrogance hanging out.  Everybody knew their siting of the emergency generators was wrong but didn't say anything.  The best thing that I can say about the Japanese is that their leadership can publicly drink more whiskey than anyone I've ever seen, and still make it to work the next morning.

spend rods won't even be an issue in the future when you can safely yeet them into space

Reprocessing means that you eliminate the Trans-Uranic Actinides (that's the realllly long lived nasty stuff) and only produce Fission Products (radioactive for 200-400 years- manageable!!)

And 30 Tons of Low Enriched Uranium used for 3 years produces only .8 Tons of Fission Products- meanwhile, other forms of power production produce 100's of Millions of Tons per year of waste.

Fission power with reprocessing is the future.

Good for them.  I can atleast take them seriously in their belief in climate change

Anyone who believes climate change is catastrophic on one hand but refuses to pursue nukes on the other is a lying con artist piece of shit.

You can't say that global warming will kill billions of people on one hand and the clock is ticking but waffle on the only practical near term solution on the other hand.

It's evidence that you are running a long con on people.

If it was really that big of an emergency you'd be building nuke plants as quickly as possible in order to get off coal and NG even if you had a long term vision of renewables.

My biggest source of suspicion on the climate change agenda is the fact that they've ignored nuclear.  Must not be that much of an emergency after all.

Maybe.  I'm genuinely curious what the lifetime cost of a nuke plant is vs gas and coal plants, if each of the energy policy and regulatory compliance requirements are optimized and assumed to remain optimized for the respective fuels.

Someone on the left finally had a brain cell kick in. Nuke is the only non fossil fuel that can meet the current and growing future electric needs. Solar and wind are ok as supplements to the grid but can never do it on thier own.

It's like taking candy from a baby.
The Germans won't have any gas when the Russians shut down the pipelines, so the French will sell them electricity at extortion rates when the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't flow.

We should be going for 200. Economies of scale dictate that the more you build, the cheaper they are... And nukes are the greenest energy around. Especially if we dump the prohibition on reprocessing spent fuel.

well duh...

I been saying this since Obongo's first trillion dollar "infrastructure" bullshit... if the guy wasn't the absolute corrupted fraud he is we would have used that money to modernize our entire grid and build nuclear in numbers.... instead we got favors and grifting that ended up in jackshit for the American taxpayer and his country..

Don't worry, the Germans will just chop down another 1000 year old forest to build more windmills. That will surely save them and be greener than green!
