John Wick is a tough one since it’s basically a revenge movie re: the dog.

And of course “I am Legend” spawned the legendary bathtub thread.  Seeing “Where the Red Fern Grows” made me think more in the “Old Yeller” line of movies.  Where you build up that “boy and his dog” relationship for two hours and then kill the dog.  Real life has plenty of that for me.

How about Red? Dog gets killed by a troublemaking little shit early in the movie, the rest of the movie is about the old man wanting the kid to be held accountable and why the dog mattered so much to him.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think the “boy and his dog” stories have a more justified place than the dog revenge stories*. I’m capricious this morning.

*John Wick excepted on the basis of really great gun handling throughout.

If everybody had seen John Wick, old Mustang threads would be less likely to off the drama deep end. So that's my vote.

For sure.  Excellent movie and the J.G. Ballard book is even better.
