Wow, an already dumb thread that turned quite ugly. Casually tossing around the "groomer" and "pedo" label needs to be a bannable offense, the already cesspool-like GD is even worse for that stupid trend.

To me it boils down to whether or not Matt did what the people he represents wanted him to do. I mean, it is literally his job to represent and fight for the people of his district. If he did do what he was elected to do, job well done. If not, then the next election cycle is where his constituents make their displeasure known.

Quoted: 1 out of 8 Americans lives in California and 6 million of them voted for Trump in the last presidential election. That's greater than the population of 31 of the other 49 states. Conservative Patriots have very few allies in this nation. We should be supporting our brothers and sisters behind enemy lines, not insulting them or encouraging them to run away. We consistently slam Democrats here, but I can't imagine people on DU slam like-minded individuals there simply because they live in a red state. It's fairly pathetic that we need to look to their example for how to stick together in a fight. View Quote Agreed! |

Quoted: 2. YOU LIE, Gaetz was cleared of what you accuse him of. View Quote Gaetz was emphatically NOT cleared of these accusations. The DOJ declined to prosecute him on FEDERAL charges of TRAFFICKING minors, violation of the Mann Act, and obstruction. Just hiring yourself an 17-year-old prostitute is NOT a FEDERAL case. Unless there's a nexus DOJ can't charge it, and it would have to be pretty airtight for a federal prosecution of a sitting member of Congress over a single instance of what was likely an unintentional act with someone who was almost of age. The public Venmo transactions from 2018 are pretty damning. It's certainly a lot more evidence than we see behind daily accusations against public figures in GD. The extortion attempt didn't happen until three years later. Unless there's a state investigation the only ongoing investigation is the House Ethics Committee inquiry which picked back up in June after DOJ declined to prosecute. McCarthy has said his unwillingness to stop the inquiry is what's motivating Gaetz. 96% of the Republican members of the House would seem to agree. People can go read the reporting themselves. Gaetz comes off as Barbie Hunter Biden. We'll see what the ethics committee has to say. |

Because those statements were just made on the prior page, and I'm sure if you're from California, you found it a bit insulting. I get it, what he was saying was fairly insulting and hyperbole, whether he realized it or not. You could say the same thing about someone who likes The Rolling Stones or any number of other rockers who we are now learning slept with 13-year-old groupies. Just because you agree with someone's actions in a specific instance, or even just like their music, that clearly does not imply you approve of every decision they've made in their life, or are even knowledgeable of them. I think that's fairly intuitive and anyone accusing you of being a pedophile because you like the Rolling Stones music is just embarrassing themselves. But if you want to submit a report for it, I promise I will not handle it. Okay, I'm going to go slink off back behind the curtain. |

Omnibus bills are treason.
$33 Trillion in debt is treason. Not passing single spending budget bills is treason. $2 Trillion dollars in deficit spending alone this year is treason. This cannot stand, the Congress has been out of compliance with budget laws for over a generation now. That's not good. The primary duty the Congress has to the American people is their fiduciary duty. |

If the Biden DOJ said "we'll pass" on prosecuting a right-wing loudmouth like Gaetz, I'm pretty confident he did nothing worth worrying about on the whole pedo issue. There's no democrat prosecutor on the planet who wouldn't take that scalp if they thought they could.

God Bless Matt Gaetz for actually doing what 90% of the Republicans ran on to get elected. Fight the establishment, disrupt the status quo and return the congress to regular order.
It's only the first step, but hopefully it will wake up the establishment that they are not insulated from the repercussions of not keeping their promises. |
