I am one of those that took out a 2018 Miata for a test drive as I could not understand the hype. After the test drive I still can not understand the hype. I ended up with a Porsche Boxster. I will say if the Miata came stock with a decent motor that was factory warrantied I could see it being a fun car. Like the guy above who said he has a Corvette and they are very different....I agree...I also had a C6 that was way more fun. Heck my Audi A5 sportback and my Mustang 5.0 is more fun than the Miata...the only car other than the Miata I don't get is the Audi TT...however in all fairness to the Miata I don't track my cars...that might make a huge difference in my opinion of them

On the track they will beat much more powerful cars and really are impressive at the track.

Bought my wife the 10th Anniversary model long ago in Florida. Gotta admit, it was fun as hell to drive but the roof rested on my head when it was up.
Sold it to a drop-dead gorgeous hotel realtor from Atlanta who stripped it and had a roll cage welded in to race. I bought a 2001 BMW Z3 3.0 that fit both of us. Wifey was not pleased. |

Well, it's like this...I literally get a gay/chick car comment at least once a week. It was funny, amusing the first year....but everything gets old after a while, and, like Chinese water torture, there reaches a point where you say enough is enough. Then.... second year, you get angry at the people making jokes, and start to defend yourself...expecially when the people making the jokes are driving automatic econoboxs and have never heard the term "heel toe shifting". Third year comes around, and all of a sudden some guy makes a comment and you verbally unleash on him the pent up anger of three years of dickheads who can't drive making the SAME stupid comments...

As a non miata fan, anyone who doubts what they bring to the table is mental.
Literally I think every track that has had miatas on it has had them break some lap record. Thats the praise they receive. You could of said you thought they were ugly or something, but who posts a thread on that? I think you would of had more people agreeing with you if you titled the thread, "The pontiac aztek is ugly". Edit: I just remembered something someone told me once at a track day. "the only people who hate miatas are the guys who paid double just to get slower lap times". More of a testament to the abundance of good miata drivers and well setup cars, but it applies. |

I think a Mini S is on par, or surpasses the Miata as far as track performance goes ........and they look better. But it's all personal opinion....rwd vs fwd....they are both fun little cars.
It's odd though....I get more compliments from people on my Mini than I did when I had my 71 Camaro...... different strokes for different folks I guess...... |
