Trump got to Romney.  Trump will never forgive Romney's knife in the back during the Senate impeachment trial.  Romney is deep in the Ukraine mess, Trump has plenty of leverage.

Once Romney's usefulness is over, Trump will crush him for that vote.

He also BLOCKED Obama's nominee.

That would have swung the court the other way.

THAT has never been done afaik, and the precedent he used was 130 years ago.

The SERIES of actions he's taken are why I'm hyped on him.

Each one is fine on its own, but as a whole its a HUGE accomplishment.

We would JUST now be getting back to 5-4 had that turtle rolled over.

the republicans ran for 8 years on what they would do when they got power again. they pissed on obamas stuff when they could, to win points with voters. then, when they took back power, they accomplished jack . shit.

fuck, they all fought trump for the first 2 years " because we dont like him". they totally pissed away their opportunity to get anything done, did none of the shit they campaigned on for 8 years while trying to get back into power.  just because one republican turd is shinier than the rest of the republican turds in the turd bowl does not make them " good ". they are still a career turd, and will always be.

i agree if one of them does something thats good for us occasionally, they deserve a little credit.. but dont think for a second they are not still part of the problem that has gotten the country to the point its at currently.

I agree that the shift could allow him to get his balls to drop, BUT...

from my edit above:

lol.  I went to read the wiki page on Roberts.  In his confirmation hearings, he stated that he had no comprehensive jurisprudential philosophy.  So there it is.

He pissed me off by supporting TARP.  I thought he was a Bush Republican because of that.

His actions since then have been nothing but exactly what I could hope for from a Senate GOP leader.  Particularly his realization that cooperating in any way with the Democrats is the rode to failure.  He consistently does the right thing, even when his Kentucky favorability suffers for it.  I can't even blame him for failing to repeal Obamacare, as I see McCain to blame for that.

McConnell is the reason Obama was unable to accomplish anything of merit after losing the supermajority.

He's done, over the last decade, exactly what we always say Republicans need to do, which is to stop playing nice and push the lefts shit in whenever possible.

His book, The Long Game is a great read, and the audio version is narrated by McConnell himself, suprisingly well, in fact.

Senator McConnell is the best GOP tactician Washington DC has seen for decades.

But he can still get fucked.

As an ex officio member of the SSCI how much would he have had to do with it?  What would he have to gain by helping such activity?  It just seems disparate to his visible actions to insinuate that because he's associated he helped along.

Particularly when it came to impeachment and his public support for acquittal from the beginning.  Maybe he saw that his stamping out the SSCI's activity would be seen as a cover up, and since there was nothing there to cover up, let it play out?

I don't know.  They're all on their own team first, no doubt in my mind there.

It has happened before.  I watched a video earlier (Viva Frei with attorney Robert Barnes) where it was mentioned that judicial history is not all that great an indicator of how a judge will rule upon gaining the Supreme Court (after all, one of the things a judge has to consider when at the district or appellate level is precedent and being overruled by a higher court, neither of which hold any weight once you get to the Supreme Court).  Barnes suggested that "life history," such as whether they grew up in "old money" etc., were much more reliable in predicting philosophy once on the Supreme Court, at least as far as previously "conservative" justices went (it seems to me that very few conservatives would suppress that tendency throughout a career of wildly liberal rulings, while the opposite appears to be more widespread).

Mike
ETA:  This is for new appointees - while a justice might shift their philosophy over a career on the Supreme Court, I wouldn't expect a sudden reversal (except for Roberts, who seems to flip a coin at times to decide which side of a case to come down on, and even contradict his own previous opinions).

Denied his Supreme Court Nomination, gambling on the most unconventional campaign in history.

And if he pulls off this Nomination he will have a place in history.

Granted we can bitch about Obamacare but he had 58 Dems and 2 independents voting for it.  Not a single Republican voted for it.

We can also bitch about the lack of progress during Trump's 1st 2 years, but I truly believe that that sack of shit Paul Ryan as the great roadblock.

When it comes down to it, Mitch has been a very effective leader in the Senate. Love him, hate him, I don't give a shit.

All I know is that there were no new gun laws passed at the Federal level, and a 6-3 Supreme court is on the horizon.

If we get the house back and retain the Senate and the Presidency, its going to be a great fuckin 2 years with Mr. Ryan gone.

Ram it through Cocaine Mitch.  Ram it through and let it echo for eternity.
