I saw a beautiful 68 camaro today, just pristine, but as I pass it I noticed it has modern 5 star wheels with low profile tires. I just don't get it!?!?!?!? Am I the only one that thinks this is pitiful???????

I don't get it either.  Okay, I think low profile tires look good on some cars, but not all.  I've never understood the huge ghetto goblin rims either..

I love low profile on modern cars, but on classics I think it's stoooopid!

Dude.  You must have made a typo.

IIRC, the Laguna was introduced in 1973.

Yea it's dumb!   Whats wrong with heavy ass stamped steel wheels!  While we're at it, whats with the radial tires?   Old cars like that deserve OEM skinny bias plys.  So what if they slide off the road, it's what the car came with...
Loosen up.

Depends on the car and the wheel. I've seen some that sucked, and some that were better than anything era original.

As for the Cragar S/S, to me they just reek of a '73 Camaro with a four year old primer job and at least three parts from JC Whitney

I would LOVE to see an episode of that "Overhaulin" show where the car's owner says "Why the fuck did you put those ghetto wheels on my 68 Camaro??!!!"

You mean like on the TV show where they take peoples rusted out beaters that wern't going anywhere and at least get them back on the road?

I was going to actually bring that up. With the paint schemes he does, he can pull off SOME of the new wheels. A lot of them still don't look good though. Cragers are the best imo.

I put 16x7 inch torque thrust II's on my 1965 mustang, they are a modern wheel (compared to the car), I think they look good, but it is my car.

You must be thinking of Torq-Thrusts.

I like simple, my car will have black 15" DOT Bassett steelies or some form of bigger wheel, but only to fit bigger brakes. As far as Foose goes, he's the real deal or was before he went all Hollywood. I don't care much for his style, but his skill is unquestionable. Hell, most folks hate my designs for old muscle cars, apparently flat white paint isn't for everybody.

If I used the original wheels I would be limited on braking power, but more importantly tire width. The original wheels allowed the use of a 6 to 7 inch tire. I am conservatively using 9 inch tires now with no modifications to the car what so ever.

I had those on my '71 Chevelle. Except that the rear were deep dish.

Polyglass wide ovals. Hurst shifter. Hooker headers. Eledelbrock. Holley. 8 track Toshiba.

Those were the days.

I'm putting the same on my 1966 Tbird...

...because they're stronger than Cragar S/S rims, with very similar styling.

Cragar S/S, for those of us who lived in the car world in the 70's and 80's––were King.

I mean, if you didn't have Centerlines, they were King!
