Real, it was a 4 shot 1970's anti tank weapon. Called the dragon if I recall. Never saw one, took a course on them in the 80's.

I recalled wrong, Not the dragon,. It was the flash. M202A1

A napalm launcher.

Sticks to kids.

Was the four shot rocket launcher in the movie Commandor a movie prop or an actual replica of a real launcher.

Got to fire them at one range trip at Grafenwohr, in '85. We also fired a shit load of LAAW's and W. German AT launchers.

M202 Multi-purpose Flame weapon. I trained to use it as an enlisted 0351 infantryman in the 70's. We never got to shoot it though, since at the time it was deadlined because they had a nasty tendency to blow up in the little suitcase when the trigger was pulled.

one by my house has automatic racks that slide down protecting the rifles.  They showed it to me when I asked about it. all the rifles are on the rack and they raise it when open and then close it at end of the day. not as cool as a secret room though.

So while that is a cool item, that does not shoot the 35 mm rockets that the M202 Flash shoots  and it is not a rocket launcher.   The only similarity between them is that they both shoot 35mm somethings.  I have to go back and look that one up because I don't have the information in front of me but from what I recall, you set that backpack up and it shoots smoke grenades or something like that.

Multi-Purpose Flame Weapon.

I was in the USMC 79-83 and trained as an 0351, anti-tank assaultman. Trained a little in explosives, C4 along with the LAAW rocket and the MPFW. While we got to shoot the LAAW, we never got to shoot or handle the MPFW other than an empty demo model. From what I remember, our instructors said there were issues with the MPFW like all four of the rockets firing at once???

The warheads used a jelly called Thickened Pyrophoric Agent, or TPA. It ignites on contact with air. The manual has a part about when one of your 4-rocket reload bails is dripping "burning goo"-- the manual says to throw the bail of rockets into a foxhole (does not specify unmanned or otherwise), and run 20 meters away. Later it mentions that the burst radius of the warhead is 50 kmeters. Not real reassuring, but except for that, a very handy tool to have in the box. The new fuel-air SMAW rounds work better, have much better range and are way more accurate, though. The 2nd Ranger Batt out here seems to be very happy with their Carl Gustafs.

Burst is probably measured above ground and in air.  Dumping a rocket in foxhole probably attenuates so 20 meters is safe.

Disclaimer:  I have never tested the above rockets and am taking the Army's word for it.

Why is it a multi-purpose flame weapon?  Wouldn't setting various things on fire be one purpose?
