No idea how to post, but I'm a fiend for slasher and exploitation posters. The art was almost always so much better than the movies.

The 74 Texas Chainsaw Massacre poster is one of my faves, as is the original I Spit On Your Grave.

I have or at least had a Fifth Element poster. I haven’t seen it in a while so someone in my house probably disposed of it for me. I have a bunch of original cartoon cells and original drawings.

I should have asked George Lucas to autograph it. My girlfriend in the late 80s was best friends with Lucas's AuPair. We attended her wedding at Skywalker Ranch and her baby shower at Lucas's guesthouse in San Anselmo. GL was dating Linda Ronstadt at the time.

That would have been awesome. He never signs anything from what I understand. I've got a friend that attends Star Wars events and has met most of the original cast over the years in private settings. He said to never meet your heroes. Apparently Mark Hamill is an insufferable asshole in real life. I decided not to have him take any of my original Star Wars posters and get them signed.

I used to have so many movie posters back in the 80s. My bedroom walls and ceiling (yep, the ceiling, too) were covered in movie and girl/car posters. There was a really cool guy who owned a video rental store in my hometown. I preferred to go there instead of Blockbuster because he was a 1-man show and always had plenty to choose from. And it seemed like nothing was ever out of stock. Plus, he'd let you take some extra posters if you were a frequent customer (like I was). You could buy them, but if you were someone he knew pretty well, he'd just let you take a couple here and there. I had all the ones from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the first 2 Alien movies, Terminator, Back To The Future, etc. If it was a blockbuster in the 80s, I probably had the poster for it.

And I wish I still had them. I should've gone by that place before he closed up. He stayed open well into the late 90s. Of course he'd switched over to DVD by then, but he still had plenty of posters. When he finally closed, I heard he was just selling off everything. He was wanting to retire and was looking to get rid of everything in the store; including the racks, the movies, themselves, the posters, any memorabilia.....everything. It was sad when he finally closed down.

It’s all dying. My kids don’t care about movies. Everything is social media and YouTube. Seriously the movie star is dying very quickly.

There are some amazing posters out there. Drew Struzan is one of my all time favorites.

Picked an original of this a few years ago.  I'm finally making a good frame for it now.

Sarcastic response…It’s an AR-15

Reality response…It’s an HK91.

Love all the old Shaw Brothers posters. They look so cool and there's hundreds of them.

Just so you guys know,  the video store release posters are different than the movie theater posters and aren't worth nearly as much.

That said, one of my favorite video release "posters" was actually the 3D cardboard display for Who Framed Roger Rabbit.  It consisted of a refrigerator with Jessica sitting on top and Roger's feet sticking out from beneath. When you opened the door the rest of Roger was inside.

The thing is HUGE!

I got my copy from a coworker whose friend owned a video store. He delivered it to me at work, so I set it up in my cubicle and it took up most of the available space. I took it apart and just had Jessica sitting on my window sill, looking out at the Employee parking lot. I was eventually asked to take it down before it caused an accident.

It's cool. I just don't have any room to display it. Oh well, my next house will have a basement Man Cave for that display and a Pinball machine.

Movie theater re-release posters are also generally worth less than the original release, but sometimes not by much. It usually depends on the amount of time between the original release and the re-release.

Most "art" posters are smaller in size than the movie theater posters, so that's an easy tell. Sometimes it gets more difficult.  For example, there are a lot of correctly sized Animal House fake ones.

I always liked the look of this James Bond poster (The World is Not Enough):

And this one from Die Another Day was kinda cool, but interesting that they picked a suppressed Beretta M9 for the pistol, even though Bond was using a Walther P99 for this one:

This site is a fantastic collection of fan-made movie posters. Some of them are really impressive. I tend to use them as the cover art for the movies on my Plex server.

For example, here's a few Die Hard posters, depending on what you like:

Depends on what you're looking for.

Want one for the latest Matt Damon movie? That's probably pretty affordable. Want an original Casablanca? Get ready to take out a second mortgage.

I'll be glad to help out if I can.

@Mech2007

What's a good place to look? My pops has a Fury and every time the holidays come around, I always think of trying to find him something like this with the "Body by Plymouth, Soul by Satan" text.

No idea if it was ever a real promotional poster or not.

@AGraham

The photo you linked is for the 20th anniversary video release (note the "DVD" logo in the bottom right). The original movie posters for it that I see all seem to use the statement "How Do You Kill Something That Can't Possibly Be Alive?" Which, as I noted earlier can be both good and bad. If you are willing to go for a video poster, it won't be as collectible but is probably going to be cheaper if you can find one.

Most of the guys I deal with only sell theatrical release posters. I've bought from a few places that I consider reputable. Filmposters.com is local to me and I actually went to the guy's house to pick up some posters. He tends to be a little more expensive than most, but his items are good and he knows his stuff. I've also bought multiple posters from legendmovieposters on eBay.

Filmartgallery.com has good stuff but is also kind of high priced and can be a bit of a dick to deal with.

Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
