Family of Maine shooting suspect says his mental health had deteriorated rapidly The family of the Army reservist accused of fatally shooting more than a dozen people in Lewiston, Maine, alerted police and military officials that he was experiencing an "acute" mental health episode before the Wednesday night massacre, the suspect's sister-in-law said. Robert Card, 40, a firearms instructor and longtime member of the Army Reserve, began to hear voices that were saying "horrible" things about him a couple of months ago when he was fitted for high-powered hearing aids, according to Katie Card, who is married to his brother. Katie Card said the family did their best to reassure Robert Card that the comments were not real, including by verifying with some of the people he claimed had made the remarks. But, she said, "it turned into a manic belief." "He was just very set in his belief that everyone was against him all of a sudden," she said. View Quote |

The woman that lives at the residence thinks she might have left her barn unlocked and is worried that the active shooting suspect is hiding in there but isn’t going to go check. Wants the cops to come to her house and see if the barn is locked. View Quote There’ll be tons of similar calls going out all across the country. |

Quoted: Does your post maybe leave out motivation, though? I can't imagine the statistics would capture that? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: The irony of the bullshit mental health debate in regards to firearms is that while the likelihood of suicide is higher, the likelihood of a mentally ill person, on meds or otherwise, committing a deadly violent act against others is effectively the same as a mentally healthy person. There is a statistically insignificant difference. But the media tries hard to hide that, and the pro gun folks in the know play along so they can give the anti - gunners something to try and appease them. Does your post maybe leave out motivation, though? I can't imagine the statistics would capture that? If the odds of mentally ill vs not mentally ill committing murder with a firearm are effectively the same, why restrict one group and not the other, regardless of motivation? |

View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Others in the thread have said so. I didn't verify it I don't live there. But I would not think a bowling alley would normally be off limits to carry. Yes they serve alcohol but the whole place isn't generally considered a bar. Kids and families go there. They haven't been off limits anywhere I've lived. May apply to the whole bowling alley or just the bar section. My bet is just the bar but some clarification would be nice. If illegal then I get it. |

View Quote This is the dicey part of all this intervention. If he came to suspect his family was moving on him it could have triggered the implementation of his plan. It was said that Adam Lanza's mother realized he was getting dangerous and was looking for a facility for him, he suspected it and that triggered him into action. |

She voluntarily entered a mental health facility in NY and NY immediately ratted her out to CT. The local CT police then showed up to sieze her firearms. Question for those in the mental health field and apologies if it’s been asked already. I missed it.
How likely is it for someone experiencing an acute mental break to have the mental facilities to plan out and implement an E&E plan that has successful up to this point? |

Lots of woods in that area for him to hide.
I hope the fucker either offs himself or gets DRT before he can hurt anyone else. I grew up in that area and their is lots of places to hide. Steven King can fuck off and die...everyone knows people from Durham are inbred retards !! |

Quoted: Maine is among the very best states there is to be on the run like that. Might be an exhausting hunt if he isn't found soon. Can't think of a single place that would be better. A large state that is extremely isolated and low populated in most of it outside of the few cities near the bottom, near an international border ( also low populated and rural on the other side ) , near the ocean, has a lot of back trails and rivers throughout the state, and is the densest most forested state out of the entire 50. On top of that southern Maine is only six hours from NYC, and two from Boston if he wanted to try and blend in the cities instead of the woods he wouldn't need to drive as far as other places. The only downside is the cold. View Quote Pretty sure you are describing Alaska. |

Possible info Reddit (yeah it's Reddit take it with a grain of salt but the guy knows the lingo):
So, my buddy is AGR in the battalions S3 shop of the dude in question. They were at ECT at west point training cadets when he went a little fucko. The state police were called in, and the end result was him being hospitalized. West Point does not have a mental health facility, and he was transferred to a civilian hospital and held for 2 weeks. After release, he threatened to shoot up the saco Reserve Center during September's drill. The COC is shitting bricks right now and are trying to figure out how to cover there asses. Edit: When I talked to my buddy, he was heading in a meeting with the BC and other relevant leadership to try and figure out what to do. Some things he brought up were: -The unit facebook page has been shut down because news outlets were using it to contact soldiers in the unit. -The BC RFI'd my buddy on the COA for when the dude is killed by the cops. Does he get a military funeral? -the dudes first sausage is sweating bullets. I'm not sure the reasoning. My buddies phone was blowing up while talking to him. I'll update more when and if he gets a chance to talk. On a side note, my va councilor and my grammother lives 5 minutes from where he swapped vehicles. View Quote I think the leadership is sweating due to what they did or didn't do after his release. They are probably fine. However, they are about to be held under a microscope on a national scale. This event will certainly affect an oer/ncoer, so I bet they are trying to ensure that they did, in fact, take all the necessary actions. It is hard to manage soldiers in the reserves. As a leader, you can't do much unless they are at drill or on orders. For instance, you can't confiscate his firearms. When I was in, I had a soldier who decided to Don his full battle rattle and march down the city streets with an AR at 2 in the morning. The cops took his firearms, and we got him a mental health profile. If the cops didn't confiscate his guns, the profile would be useless because the 90% he's at home he would have access to firearms.
