If you want to go that route why don't we mention how many MILLIONS we in the West murdered of OURSELVES in WWI and WWII? There IS evil and good in any group. It is when the EVIL gets dominant that we have to worry. And I worry for Islam. Quoted:

............... Wonder why there are so many variations of Judaism despite one Torah? Wonder why there are Rabbis who don't think ultra Orthodox Jews stoning women to wearing short skirts and who don't call for an expanded and less secular Israel, despite how some more extreme Rabbis do? If you want to go that route why don't we mention how many MILLIONS we in the West murdered of OURSELVES in WWI and WWII? There IS evil and good in any group. It is when the EVIL gets dominant that we have to worry. And I worry for Islam. Justifiably so. The aim is to ensure that good prevails, not brandish them all as evil and create a bigger problem. From our discussions I know you recognise this. |

Simplistic Genius. You'll be telling me next that the more guns you have the higher the risk of you going out and murdering someone, committing a mass shooting, killing a cop, or suck starting your own gun when it all gets a but too much. You'd be correct in that display of simplistic logic as well, but we both know that there is a lot more to it and simply banning guns will not stop it. Quoted:

Fact: The more Muslims in any given area, far greater chance of Islamic terrorists there are; More Muslims supporting sharia law; More Muslims in political office which leads to sympathetic laws favoring Sharia which in turn violates our Constitution. Not to mention the occasional beheading, torture and mass killings. Simplistic Genius. You'll be telling me next that the more guns you have the higher the risk of you going out and murdering someone, committing a mass shooting, killing a cop, or suck starting your own gun when it all gets a but too much. Guns are inanimate objects, unlike the totalitarian political system that islam is. Guns don't team up with other guns and study books that command them to go kill everybody and supplant governments. It's you that's made an utterly stupid, specious comparison here. We're supposed to take advice from someone in the UK on this?

Quoted: In blue Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: You're not a "Mean Guy". You are scared shitless and don't know how to respond so like a big daft child you advocate killing everything because understanding the problem is hard. It always amazes me how many of you will sing the praises of the constitution and rights, yet throw your constitution under the bus at the first sign of a little adversity. I'm totally with you about going and getting the bad guys. Drone strike them, arrest and imprison them and do earthing you can to degrade their capability and capacity to do harm at every opportunity. Totally with you on that. However, advocating the wholesale slaughter of innocent people, and throwing your own supposed values and beliefs out of the window in a fit of irrational ignorance and fear is the action of an ill-disciplined, emotionally immature person. I largely agree with everything you posted above. I have a few questions for you. What are your thoughts on groups such as The Soldiers of Odin that was started out of Finland? Forget that Odin was Norse....and all that. I'm talking about the premise of citizens forming groups to provide protection for other citizens? The principle of citizens protecting citizens is entirely honourable. That is the basis of any police force. Where it becomes a problem is when the actions fall outside the law - that is to say it becomes a means of targeting people for persecution. I do not believe that the Soldiers of Odin was set up as a vigilante group with that in mind. Is this just an excuse for baseless nationalism? Do these groups actually have a legitimate basis for their creation? Would it be fair to summarily throw all such groups under the banner of "Nazi's"? Nationalism is not a dirty word despite the best efforts of the left to imply other connotations. It is a matter pride and upholding values which form the basis of that nation. In terms of the legitimacy of their formation - I don't see why the formation of any group would be an issue if they are operating within the laws of the land. It might be argued that the fact people need to form such groups to protect themselves represents failing by the government of that nation to do it's job, meaning others have to pick up the slack, but that is a testament to the values of the citizenry in upholding the rule of law - provided their actions are lawful. Is there a point in time when it's reasonable to conclude government has failed in its protection and priority of its own citizens and a citizen based response is reasonable without that response being condemned as "nationalist/Nazi/extremist"? And I'm not talking about forming support groups to talk things out. I'm talking about assuming some level of responsibility for physical security. Yes -where the Govt fails to uphold the laws of the nation it is not unreasonable to expect that the public will rise to that challenge. Provided they remain within the law in doing so then I fail to see how it becomes extremist or Nazism. In many nations there is an expectation in law that citizens will assist in upholding the law, and it is an offence for them to fail to do so. Physical security, provided it is upheld within the self-defence laws of the nation, is something that is enshrined in law within most nations anyway. Do any such conditions exist.....or can you articulate conditions where such a response would be necessary? Yes, they exist at times. A town local to me had a problem with burglaries, assaults and car thefts after being targeted by a criminal gang. The citizens asked the police for more patrols and the Police were slow to respond in committing resources. The citizens formed their own group and patrolled their own streets - which naturally caused some concern as it was evident that the police were not able to do their job (it was a resource issue in a rural town). This caused some embarrassment within local Government and resources were quickly provided to step up policing and resolved the issue. The citizens were supported and provided advice local police during this period and the citizen patrols were often pictured with local police officers as a partnership. Any situation where local services are unable or unwilling to respond to a problem will provide grounds for citizens to take responsibility for their own welfare. Provided the actions of those citizens remain lawful there should be no opposition or issue. In blue Well put, and I agree for the most part. Regrettably, however, what is deemed as "lawful"....or "unlawful" can and does sway with the leanings of a ruling class. The same class that gleefully ushers in horrendous immigration policies to the detriment of their citizens and nation as a whole are frequently the same who condemn and legislate against any meaningful response from the citizenry. So though I agree with you in principle, I also believe there should be an asterisk next to the word "lawful*" because of the sometimes highly questionable basis and motivations by which citizens are governed and legislated. Slippery slope and all that.....I get it. But I also believe slippery slopes are simply a part of the path one may find themselves on at times and must be navigated accordingly. |

That was my point.
I was ridiculing you. You were just not smart enough to see it, and attempt to recover from it. It requires a human decision to actually commit a crime with a gun, the same way it requires a human to make a decision to adopt and practice extremism. Ergo the problem lies with the individual, not some specious group concocted in you liberal mindset. |

The will of the government and the will of the people seldom mesh in perfect timing. It is the nature of the beast. Effects on the ground are always felt first and Govt has to then respond. This is why we see growing disquiet in many countries where the Govts have lost touch and think they know best. Brexit happened for a reason. Dissatisfaction with immigration is just one of the symptoms of the problem. What happens to redress the balance, and how quickly, is the key to the future direction of travel, but the stubbornness of the EU has been instrumental in growing public dissatisfaction. Government is there to serve the will of the people, not the other way round. Outlawing the will of the people never turns out well for the Governments concerned. |
