Lol we had a guy back in the 90’s take personal leave to “bond” with his hunting dog…

When I was 10 my mom ran over my cat on accident, before school. I still went to school. It was terrible.

I had a subcontractor leave a job to go feed his cat. Even though he had his girlfriend at home.
Same guy got arrested at the hospital for picking a fight with the same girlfriend while she was giving birth to their baby. Also the same dipshit who just two days ago got out on bond in Wisconsin for fighting with his again pregnant girlfriend and grandmother while under a restraining order. |

I called off to put my Dog and Cat both down over the last few years, I had personal time to cover it but I really didn't give a fuck if someone didn't like it.
did have a woman a few years back when I was covering HR that had to take a couple days off because her fish had babies and she was afraid they would be eaten if she wasn't there, did get a few laughs out of that |

I was heartbroken when we had to say goodbye to our little buddy. I cried like a little girl. But I didn't take time off from work. I grieved while doing my job. It sounds like the OP's employee was a loser anyway. The dead cat was the last straw. |
|
Not going to lie losing a pet is hard but I'd never take off work for it. Unless of course they had passed when I woke up and had to take care of burial/cremation. But after the fact Is silly.

How is this any different than the average arf boomer when their pet dies
|
|
My company offers paid Bereavement days for losing a pet. I think it’s one day.
I only found out because they sent me the company’s Bereavement policy when my daughter passed away. I had no idea. I lost four pets since I started working there (two dogs and two cats) but would never have thought to ask for paid days off. |
|
I make sure I don't need any PIPs so when I do have to take care of a pet passing, there's no issue with me taking time off.
|
|
I worked with a lady that actually applied for FMLA to care for her sick cat. She was distraught when it was denied. She could barely do her job another day because one of the stray cats she fed in our parking garage looked sick that morning.

Production Manager entering the chat, WTF is this BS.
I've heard some of the stupidest shit people say to get out of work one of my workers 26yr old was crying about the temp today, feeling dizzy, me are you on drugs, him I can't focus!! me WTF is your problem, do you need your mommy? do me a favor, punch out go home right now, don't come in tomorrow if you're felling this way tomorrow, I'll replace you with the next dumbass in line. |
|
One at work breeds small dogs and leaves for a few days whenever it’s time to deliver puppies like it’s normal
|
|
If this popped up right after two days of unexcused absences, I would be heavily leaning towards calling bullshit, because it sounds like the type of thing assholes would make up to make the boss the bad guy. Of course I don't know this kid, so maybe he's not the type. But OP was talking about a PIP for attendance problems before the cat came into the conversation, so it's pretty hard for me not to suspect that.
But what do I know, I come into work reliably so I have zero issues when taking days for things like this. |

Quoted: In all fairness, they could have been close to the kittah, and that could be devastating to some. Also, I suspect they'll need to take the body to a vet for cremation or similar. I know these comments won't go over well in GD. View Quote True and very if an employee who was always there for shift and did their job and needed a personal day it probably would not be a problem. That does not sound like this employee was that guy though. When I was in college, I called in to work one day over a fish tank issue, it was only a shitty part time job anyway though. That said I was also at work the next morning after getting the message my dad died, nothing I could have done by being off and was going to need the days off to travel to funeral. |

On the plus side, he didn't say it was his little boy/little girl that died

I had a similar deal with a dog.
Employee had the worst attendance in the shop, always had an excuse why it wasn't his fault. I dealt with it for a year. Then his dog dies. Asked for "the standard 3 days of bereavement." I offered no bereavement, my condolences and just take 3 days. He countered by not showing up for 5 work days and calling me a "Pruson Guard" on social media. That was the gift I needed to invite him to fuck off elsewhere. And get his UE benefits denied. |

Just tell the tranny: “It’s a fuckin’ cat! Get the fuck back to work or you’re fired!”

We used to have vacation days and sick days, with 2 of the sick days usable as personal days without any reason. They changed it so all sick days are usable as personal days to be fair to the employees who didn't abuse the system.
Now the only difference between vacation days and sick days is vacation days need to be requested in advance, vacation days accrue/carryover, and consecutive personal days need a doctor note or prior line manager approval. It's been great for the young healthy single guys but the middle age women are upset they have to work as many days as everyone else now. |

A cat passing away is a valid reason to take a day off, but because he is a habitual offender you should ask for proof of death of said cat. A picture of the corpse with a current newspaper would suffice.
