Cool! Especially for us behind enemy lines in ban states.

I wonder how hard it would be to do a side charging upper on one of these.  Side chargers take a proprietary bolt carrier right?  So would that be a no go for the Ares?

ETA: I think one of these would look sweet with some of those fancy wooden AR handguards and a nice and shiny wood buttstock.

I can't find the thread, been looking, but there's a thread floating around these forums where people are putting side-charging uppers on these with good results.  I believe there are three compatible uppers at the moment, and the one that sticks out in my head is new frontier armory.

eta:  I've been seriously considering building one of these, but to really do it right you'd want to use a side-charging upper and they're all a bit pricey.  You figure 500 for the lower/bolt combo, 200 for upper, 200 for barrel and another 250 (for me, a kmr) for the handguard and the price really starts to get up there.

It sure looks a lot better than those awkward compliance configurations you see in the communist states, I wonder if people who live behind the enemy lines could use this instead ?

The free market need to make a tactical mag release lever.

Unless your finger is long enough.

This lower has the updated 5lb trigger which is nice but hopefully there is an aftermarket one available soon. The trigger and the no bolt hold open/release are my only real complaints.

You know you can order a bolt catch for it from ARES, right?

No problem. Easiest AR style bolt catch I ever installed.

So is Geissele building a trigger yet?!?!?!

If it weren't for the trigger I would have ordered a lower last night!

In doubt they'd have any interest in doing one unless it starts to really take off.

This is kind of where my question came from about the proprietary buttstock.

Agreed. I did notice when I bought the bolt catch from Ares eBay store that they had sold over 100 of the catches. It makes me think that the lowers and complete forearms are selling so hopefully their numbers will get good enough to make one of the aftermarket guys build a great trigger.

You have several states where this is one of the only decent modern semi-automatic rifles you can own, and the ONLY modular semi-automatic worth a damn.

They are going to sell a ton of them if they can market it right.

First thing they should do is lower the price down below that of a Mini-14/30, which are very popular in ban states now.

Thought it used Remington 870 buttstocks, which are found pretty much everywhere

It would be cool to have on of these but, does it take standard AR triggers?

I would really like to know more about the buttstock. Everyone that talks about it neglects to address this issue.

Can it be replaced with other standard 870 stocks with minimal modification?

I really like those for some reason. They should definitely make one in 308.

Edit: $499 for a lower though

But te lower comes with the proprietary bolt, right?
$399 would be awesome. Figure $199 for an AR lower, $100 for a BCG, and $100 because it's a minimally produced proprietary item. $399 is justifiable to me

Retail for complete lower and carrier.  I think someone had posted it for $430 at some dealers.  I paid $460.

I'm going to pick mine up in an hour. Anyone heard of a left hand or reversible safety for these?  Are Pmag 10 rounders GTG with that mag well?  Thanks for your help and FUCK YOU CUOMO!!
