I think their outlandish prices are probably less out of corporate greed and more to make up for the free medical care crowd and low payouts for it by the government.

I would love to see what the ratio of people getting free healthcare and people actually paying for their care is in large US city hospital.

I would guess around 7-3 the 7 being free recipients.

Medical billing in the US is so fucked up it makes me understand why people want single-payer.
No shit. The medical industry is their own worst enemy.

80-20 Rule: 80% of their business is likely sustained by the 20% that pays

Did you get $14,000 worth of care or Did you get $2000 worth of care and paid for the 6 other people before you that didn’t pay?

You got $2000 worth of care and shoveled $12000 to a bunch of bloated, politically connected cartels, oligopolies, and monopolies.

Government run single payer healthcare wouldn't have cost that much.

There's just a one week backlog. Don't be so dramatic.

The same anti-venom, from the same company, produced in the same factory, costs less than $200 in Mexico.

If I remember correctly, when I was looking into buying antivenom for some exotic snakes I had at the time, the South American produced stuff was about $60/vial. It was also supposed to be more effective than the Crofab that is administered here, even for North American snakebites. The downside was you ran the risk of serum sickness. It was going to be an incredible hassle to buy though because of all the permitting required to import a non-FDA drug.

It was the government and government policies that caused inflationary medical prices.
