This is fucking embarrassing. We are being punked by fucking balloons. Eventually one of these is going to be up to no good. NORAD needs to figure out a way to find these earlier, and fund an easier and cheaper way to shoot them down. In the meantime, we need to be doing the same to China. Unfortunately we don't have any friendly nations on the western border of China. I don't think you are going to be able to fuck with them from SK. Maybe if we didn't fucking abandon Bargram we could at least have a way to get to them from the west.

Dunno why, but this thread has a large response of really retarded juvenile posts. Must be something about balloons and little kids I guess.

The winch was supposed to be able to bring it in up to 70 knots of wind (or something like that). Tether was supposed to hold up to 100 knots of wind (or something like that). If the tether broke, it was supposed to auto deflate.... Couldn't winch it in with the wind speed. Tether broke. Didn't deflate.... OOPS.... |

You don't get to invade our airspace. That is an act of war.
Feeze all incoming cargo ships from China for 30 days. |

I don't like us having to use F22s and use missiles. |

As per Fox News, the unidentified object has been splashed.
Edited to reflect that a US F-22 fired the shot, but that Canadian assets were also involved in the intercept. |

They are an adversarial nation-state. If they need to "drum up" your support, then you either weren't paying attention, or you desperately want China to win |

Whatever happened to the old ABL project? |

Quoted: I hope we get to use another multi-million dollar missile instead of a few inexpensive bullets to shoot down a $30 barroon with $150 worth of gear on it. View Quote Right, because it's not like we burn though thousands times more a year blowing shit up for training purposes. This one missile used in a situation where a bunch of military personnel get to gain experience going hot in the real world situation is surely going to be even marginally financially relevant.... |

I guess it's my lack of secret squrrel sense, but there are bound to be simple diagrams of both of the downed objects.
Unless it is a halftime event, just show the shapes. We are not biologists, but we have seen a balloon before. |

So are going to flip a coin to see who drops this one? Canada or USA?
ETA: Canada popped it. |

Aren't there like 1500 legitimate weather balloons launched daily around the world? I can see this turning into a bit of mass hysteria pretty soon and we're going to spend a fortune investigating every balloon spotted. Of course most don't have payloads the size of school busses so hopefully radar can sort through them a bit.

Is it time for the NAME THE BALLOON CONTEST? I think I will call it.......THREE.
Shoot a couple of rounds in the damn thing, let it float down, pick it up, and send a bill to China for littering. |

Wonder why it was that far into Canada before being spotted and shot down.
I thought we were better at detecting shit like this. |
