I remember when Alabama State Police were running those ADPS Javelins for 'interceptors'. They were running 401cid 4-barrel V8 engines backed by a Borg-Warner automatic transmission.

Out of the 132 ADPS Javelin fleet in 1971-72 only 24 are known to still be in existence.

New Hampshire obviously chose their colors to blend in.

Personally I think police vehicles should be highly visible and easily recognizable as such.

The proportions may look a little off, but ask any Floridian; those proportions along with that color scheme with the fde on top make them damn tricky to see.  I spend a fair amount of time in other states, including NY.  Silver troopers stand out like a sore thumb.  The blue trooper cars in NY do a fair job of hiding.

But FL?  Those cars are damn hard to spot in a median or when they're trying to hide.  And when they're coming up behind you, the paint scheme tends to break up the shape of the car and make them a bit trickier to spot.

There's actually a rationale to that paint scheme, beyond putting a lighter color on the roof to try and keep it cool in the sun.  The others are cool, but there's a lot of function in the FHP color scheme

It's been my observation that the Fords are more common in municipal departments and the Chargers and Tahoe's are more regularly seen on the highway. Probably because the Chargers brakes can't stand up to stop and go driving in town.

The trooper that drives that car is a community service officer and he was backing up the other car in a stop.  It’s not a regular patrol car.

Our cars pretty much look exactly like that, but our liberal politicians have been complaining for years that black patrol cars are intimidating. The new CLEO who dances to their strings immediately started changing the fleet car design as soon as he got into office

Yeah the euros do it too. That checkerboard pattern is ugly AF. You have to be driving with your eyes closed to not see American police cars. Even unmarked they stand out like a sore thumb. A murdered out Charger with a push bumper, antenna array and a spotlight isn't exactly low profile.

Chargers have or at least had well known issues with brake fade under spirited driving conditions.
It was a pretty serious issue with them. Also no cop should be doing 150 mph on the road under any circumstance. When they pile one up and kill somebody at that speed they face charges for it just the same as you or I. Most agencies forbid that sort of nonsense in their pursuit policies.

Back in the late 70's and 80's the Louisiana State Police had their fleet painted in several color patterns all at the same time.  Some pretty ugly cruisers back then but they used them in the James Bond film.
