Also that picture. WTF. I would not consider that "made safe" if that was brought to me. |

Many of my friends are pilots. One was stopped for nail clippers. He looked at the TSA agent and said, "I fly the plane. The whole thing is mine."
Heaven forbid a flight officer have a gun. |

Oh Colonie, those cops must have cackled
and rubbed their hands in glee when they arrested this guy. Course Albany PD was funelling machineguns to cops illegally for years and still won't comply with freedom of information act orders |

If that evil gun were not properly restrained, it would probably just "go off" and kill some innocent people - probably some young children. |

I've met several pilots that carry. I think they went overboard with this. The guy flies the dang plane. Sheesh.

No secure area is really 100% secure, if you ever worked the sterile area of an airport, you would agree

Only if they're blessed by the FAMS. I don't feel bad for this guy at all. The mechanism to become a FDO has been in place for well over a decade. "Forgetting" that you're armed is extremely irresponsible. View Quote |

I worked for a regional airline in Seattle about 10 years ago. Brought my work clothes in a back pack everyday, never once did they search our stuff. We bypassed security and went through a door into the baggage area where it used our finger prints and a passcode. Anyone could have smuggled anything at anytime if they wanted to. I could never understand that... View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

victimless crime View Quote While I agree that it's a victimless crime, I can't help but think, "What was he thinking?" One would think that an airline employee (especially a co-pilot) would be familiar with what the rules are for firearms on flights. |

and the flight was delayed for 4 hours going to chicago which means about 130 people missed their connections and an entire other flight was probably cancelled. Great work those TSA guys. You gotta hand it to them

Nobody should have to be "blessed" to carry, especially not the friggin' pilot. View Quote Does anyone remember the FDO with the negligent discharge in the cockpit? This was with a trained and vetted pilot... You're telling is there shouldn't be oversight?? |

Wrong. The training comes from TSA. FAMS needs to be introduced to the flight crew prior to the flight if flying armed. Who do you think runs the FDO program? The Federal Air Marshalls... an office that just so happens to be under TSA. The Federal Air Marshal Service provides training of armed security officers required on approved flights associated with restoration of general aviation and charter flight operations at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). |

Now we know how co-pilots are viewed. From the article "It's the second time in less than a month that a passenger was caught with a handgun in carry-on luggage."

TSA actually caught someone trying to carry a gun onto an airplane?
That IS newsworthy. |

For the life of me I've never understood why anyone would brag about being a ffdo. Personally, I've never seen a ffdo brag about it but maybe that's because I'm not the guy to brag to. However, I'd never put it past a pilot to brag about anything. FFDOs don't get paid to do it, training is only a week long, and the duties that go along with being an ffdo are incredibly simple. Conversely, being a pilot takes years of experience, pays more than any leo I've heard of, and offers privileges that far exceed anything a stupid badge can grant. How many leo jobs offer a six figure income in your second year on the job? How many leo jobs allow you to jumpseat around the world for free? A pilot bragging about being a ffdo is as silly as a hedge fund manager bragging about knowing how to push a broom. View Quote |
