They used both. The thing on your gun is a Reichsadler which was the symbol of the Nazi Government. When the head is turned the other way it's called a Parteiadler, which was a symbol of the Nazi party.

Technically, it was KDF wagen that Hitler had, well, used as vapor wear to steal shit tons of money from Germans (they used to make pre-payments to obtain their car, Hitler stole all of the money to build tanks)

there's some disagreement if the program was not financially feasible for the cost of the car, or if it was just a straight up scam, but most of the money was funneled elsewhere.

Volkswagen, by name was a program started by the British army to jumpstart industry in Germany after the war built using essentially the remains of the KDF factory and what pieces of cars and mechanical components they could find after.

Its more fair to call it Ivan Hirst's car company than Hitler's.

I had to point out to my CEO and his third party marketing vendor that one of their marketing design features had a swastika in the middle of it.
