UPDATE- Bought a sampler bottle of Glenlivet 12 $4 and a regular bottle of the Dalmore 12 $65.  We'll see how they are!  Thanks for the suggestions!

Over the past 3-5 years I've been enjoying Scotch.  Started out by buying all the small bottles my liquor store had.  Probably 6-10 of them.  Next I bought a few larger/normal bottles somewhat randomly.  At this point I lean more toward the Sherry/Fruit side of things (according to this chart).  Glenmorangie 10 and Macallan 12 are two favorites at this point.  Contemplating what to buy/try next. Whether listed on the chart or not, what seems like it would be a good match for my tastes?  Only limitation is I need to be able to buy it in PA or NJ (ONLY making the trip to enemy territory if it's THAT good!!)

Thanks!

Dewards 12 for non-smoke

Any Ardbeg or Lagavulan for a smoky/peaty adventure.

21 is the age limit in PA.  Jersey might have 25.

Just make sure you get the good stuff from Scotchland.

Glenfiddich 14

The Dalmore

Abelour 12

Aberfeldy 12

Macallan 12

If you can find Edradour, give it a shot

Anything old enough to vote or buy itself.

Barring that, Glenmorangie Lasanta has been my go to for awhile, but I prefer to bring out the subtle flavors of scotch with a splash of water, so different cask finishes work for me.

If you only drink it neat, age is really what determines the smoothness for me.

But the important piece of info here, is that booze, women, and cigars are all very personal and individual tastes. The only way to really find what you love is to try as many different flavors of booze, women, and cigars as you can.

Dalwhinnie 15 and Balvenie Doublewood as mentioned above. Aberlour 12 isn’t bad, either.

Aberfeldy 12 and Glenlivet 12 were the first single malts I tried, and I usually try to keep one of those around.

I like islays, but that’s not what OP is asking.

Sounds like you like the milder Highland & Speyside varieties.  My favorites as well.

I would +1 the above posters suggestion of a Balveine Double Wood, although I think the 17 year is the perfect balance of cost/ perfection (around $90-$100).

Thanks for the replies.  I figure I'll give it a day or two and then count up the suggestions.  So long as the top 1-2 matches my tastes, I'll buy a bottle.

Thanks again!

Nikka. all the Nikkas.

If you like fruit and sherry notes try Dalmore 12 or Aberlour abunadh.

A vote for Ardbeg.  I love all scotches, but Islay are my favorite, heavy on the smoke and peat!

Nothing new to add, but will agree that Balvenie Double Wood 12 year, Glenmorangie La Santa, and literally anything by Dalmore are all good to go.

While I'd like to avoid the sweaty socks and other similar notes....I'm open to trying a little sample or 375ml bottle of whatever.  Just doesn't seem like it'd be my cup of tea.

Try Auchentoshan 3 Wood; it's fantastic; less expensive bottle is their American Oak Single Malt. If you like a peaty scotch, go with Ardbeg An Oa; if you're cheap, get the Ardbeg Wee Beastie.

Odd that you liked both of those, they're at opposite ends of the peat spectrum. If you like 12, you'll love 18.

Purchased a bottle of 18 year old Oban last week after sampling at a restaurant. Expensive, but taste and texture is amazing. (I like it better than the Mac 18.) I'm interested how the much less expensive 14 year stuff compares.

Not just any campfire. A delicious campfire, made from the smoldering ashes of a seaside band-aid and toffee factory.

There are a few that folks keep saying it could be, but Port Charlotte seems to the the most popular one.  Bruichladdich is another one and ive seen Caol Ila and Lagavulin mentioned in possibilities

Its really good.. especially for the money.

Problem is I'd have to drive into Jersey to get it.  Costco can't sell liquor in PA.
