Bit by bit SF is imploding. No need to wait for another quake. It already struck. They just were too stupid to feel it yet.

We should start a pool on who is next.

Neiman Marcus?

Macys?

Target?

Hermes?

Hopefully all of the above.

I'm going with Macy's first, local one looks awful, big sections of the store empty, fraction of what it once was. I read somewhere Target had a plan to close some stores and make them pick-up/curbside only locations, think we'll see more of that model going forward with some stores.

You rarely, if ever hear a company threaten to leave.  They do everything they can behind the scenes politically then act when it’s apparent they’re being played or ignored.  No turning back.  Just gets worse.  Fewer victims but plenty of perps.

I knew Nordstrom was in trouble several years ago when they took the pianist out of the lobby in the Tacoma store. Philistines, all.

The food in their Cafe Bistro was incredibly good for a department store. The did an amazing croq madame, and the shrimp and grits was probably the best I've ever had...and that's saying a lot, 'cause I worked for a while at Crook's Corner (just outside Chapel Hill) for Bill Neal, the guy who created the modern recipe that took the culinary world by storm. I've had really good S&Gs.

Google "Nordstrom + black lives matter" and see a few pages of articles about how woke Nordstrom is. They knew what they were doing; closing the SF stores has everything to do with poor sales at that location and nothing to do with crime. Unless they suddenly aren't woke anymore.

I read an interesting article on retail.
According to the people who really trade.
Retail is getting hammered.
Bed bath and beyond " gone" no buyers found to take it over.
Best Buy
Big lots can't pay suppliers and will be gone by the end of the year.
Nordstrom
Even Dollar General plus a few others are in trouble.

Big lots? That's interesting it's a low end store.
Eventually there will only be Walmart and Amazon.

The retailer confirmed the closures on Tuesday. In an email to employees, the company's chief stores offices wrote that "the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully."        Lol. No mention of junkies, homeless, or shitting on the sidewalk. I am sick and fed up with lib codespeak.

Nordstrom is planning to close both of its Downtown San Francisco stores, choosing not to renew its lease obligations at its location in the Westfield Mall. It will also close a second nearby Downtown Nordstrom Rack.

The retailer confirmed the closures on Tuesday. In an email to employees, the company's chief stores offices wrote that "the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully."

The two planned closures represent about 357,500 square feet of retail space, according to the San Francisco Business Times, which first reported Nordstrom's plans.

The Westfield mall and its owner, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said in a statement that the planned closure "underscores the deteriorating situation in Downtown San Francisco."

"The planned closure of Nordstrom underscores the deteriorating situation in Downtown San Francisco," said a spokesperson for the mall. "A growing number of retailers and businesses are leaving the area due to the unsafe conditions for customers, retailers, and employees, coupled with the fact that these significant issues are preventing an economic recovery of the area."

https://s.hdnux.com/photos/01/32/51/23/23762113/3/1200x0.jpg

"[Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield] has actively engaged with city leaders for many years to express our serious concerns, which are shared by our customers and retailers. We have urged the city to find solutions to the key issues and lack of enforcement against rampant criminal activity," the statement read.

Nordstrom also announced today that it would expand its presence in California, opening five new Nordstrom Rack stores in cities across the state, including one in San Mateo.

The news of Nordstrom's Downtown exit comes less than a month after Whole Foods closed its flagship store nearby at Eighth and Market streets. The company blamed the closure on concerns about staff safety and deteriorating conditions in the area.

As of today, a total of 20 retailers have shuttered stores or announced closures in the Union Square area since 2020, up from 17 just a week ago.

The problem is, liberals don't make the connection between their destructive policies and the ensuing consequences.  They'll say Nordstrom is closing due to greed. Or, Nordstrom lost business due to online shopping. They always seem to deny reality.
