This.

The meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs used a larger caliber to compensate for its lower speed and relatively primitive design.

A modern ballistic meteor,  made from modern materials and moving at a higher velocity, can be expected to perform similarly.

See Walker Dragoon vs. .357 Magnum.

Y'all comparing the size of past impacts aren't considering the angle of attack or direction up-earth's orbit or down-earth's-orbit they came from.
Also meteors in the past used out dated technology. Meteor technology has come a long way with the introduction of the FBI penetration standards.

We need to ban these assault meteors.  They have no place on our streets.

What happened to the dinosaurs? I thought they were hiding out in Africa!

Maybe they were in the porta john?

It amuses me how these 'experts' say a meteorite the size of a Volkswagen or whatever could end all life on Earth. Earth is a big planet, and it could eaily absorb meteorites, even as big as a few miles across. It wouldn't be nice for anyone directly underneath, but it ain't gonna destroy the planet.

And no, I don't believe for a minute a meteorite wiped out the dinosaurs.

4.4 Million miles. That's not a graze.

I think I'll sleep soundly.

4 million miles, astronomically speaking, is a graze where I put a new part in your hair.

Also realize that shit out there is going unimaginably fast. A satellite is screaming around at 18,000+ mph and that asteroid is closer to 36-50k mph.

At that distance its orbit will be noticeably changed by our gravity well.

So next time around it's course has been altered enough to hit us?

Probably not how that would work.

And yeah, we should shoot st this one so we have a experimental basis for when one that might end us is incoming.

Even if this one hits, it's not going to do that much damage.

but if we hit it and break it up into tiny houses they will most likely burn up during entry if they come around next time.

IIRC they estimate that an asteroid the size of a porta-john wiped out the dinosaurs. No telling what a house-sized object would do

unless you take some pretty huge shits, that astroid was a few kilometers wide.

Enough to permanently affect the Mexican coast line and blast a massive crater into the ocean floor.

Jim Jones'.

He used to sell monkeys door-to-door.

The difference between that fact and the business about the port-a-johns is that Jim Jones selling monkeys door-to-door is actually true.

See? We're all smarter now than we were a second ago.

This is what a 50 meter wide meteor can do

Meteor Crater in AZ is about 3900 feet across and 560 feet deep.
At least it hit in the middle of nowhere.
Well, thats the thing ya know? Meteors always land in a crater for some reason. So just stay away from craters and you'll be OK.

Shoot, we'll be dead long before that.

Sept. 23 is when the happenings.

On September 23, 2017 a sign forms in the heavens that fits the requirements of Revelation 12. As far as can be determined from computer models, this is the only time this sign will occur in history. Therefore, this would literally be the Great Sign of Revelation that is to appear in heaven. The woman in heaven is Virgo–the Virgin. The sun is the sun “clothing Virgo” and the moon is actually under her feet. The garland of twelve stars are the nine stars of Leo with three wandering stars that have been situated within Leo at this time to make twelve. Those wandering stars are: Mercury, Mars, and Venus. The last element of the sign is that the Virgin must be with child. The planet or star of the Messiah is Jupiter. Jupiter at this time is in the womb of Virgo. Again, no replication of this sign has yet to be found.
Prophecy fulfilled
So the moon is in the seventh house? And Jupiter aligns with Mars? Will the sun shine in?
If you let it..
