Via the Washington Post:
Members of the NFL's finance committee raised concerns Wednesday about Josh Harris's tentative $6.05 billion deal to purchase the Washington Commanders from Daniel Snyder, slowing momentum for the approval of the potential sale and dimming the prospects of a possible ratification vote of the league's team owners later this month. Click To View Spoiler The reservations expressed during a meeting of the eight-owner finance committee do not mean that Harris's deal will be rejected, those people said. They said the committee must spend more time examining the financial aspects, and one of them said it seems increasingly unlikely the owners can vote to approve the transaction, even a conditional basis, during their May 22-23 meeting in Minneapolis. Washington fans:"Everyone wants it to get done," one of those people said. "I'm not saying it can't get done. I don't know. We'll have to see." According to that person, questions were raised during the meeting about some aspects of the deal. That person said the agreement is complex and the financing includes an unusually large number of limited partners. Harris also must demonstrate, that person said, that he has sufficient liquidity to be the principal owner of the team under the terms of what would be a record-setting sale. Another person said the finance committee emerged from Wednesday's meeting with less clarity and certainty about the deal than it had beforehand. If no ratification vote is taken this month, the NFL could schedule a special meeting for the owners to take an approval vote over the summer. The owners' next scheduled meeting is in October. |

Yeah... in football terms, the match-up could be pretty good. With two hot offenses and two sketchy defenses, there's a good chance the game will be a crowd pleasing shootout. The downside is that there's no franchise level drama there. My pick was always the Bengals. It would have been so delicious to see them listening to their own Burrowhead sound bites before watching the highlights and banner and ring ceremonies. |

USA TODAY received an audio recording of Matt Araiza's accuser speaking with a prosecutor and then they interviewed Matt Araiza. Araiza has reportedly sent the recording to 20 NFL teams in an attempt to clear his name and get a job.
The audio recording mentions a review of 9 video clips of the woman being raped, none of which showed Araiza. In an interview with USA TODAY, the woman said that the video clips show only a fraction of what happened that night. She said the videos add up to around 30 seconds out of a sequence that lasted more than 90 minutes. "I just don't think that's fair at all to look at these short clips that were already way into this assault already happening and make a judgment on that." Araiza admitted to having sex with the woman that night during a call with the woman that was recorded by police a few days after the party. "We had a brief encounter, and it is absolutely not how it's been portrayed in the media or the lawsuit," Araiza said in his interview with USA TODAY Sports. Both Araiza and two other SDSU football players have admitted to having sex with the woman that night. They all claim it was consensual and deny any wrongdoing. Araiza admitted, and witness statements seem to confirm, he had sex with the woman outdoors, on the side of the house where the party was located. The woman reiterated, "He should face accountability for what he did and what he admitted to doing. It was wrong. I was 17 and I was drunk, regardless of whether the District Attorney was able to prove. It was wrong." As I said earlier this week, regardless of whether Araiza participated in a gang rape or not. He has admitted to having sex with a drunk minor, while knowing he had an STD... I don't think these reports make him look as good as he thinks it does. Getting another shot in the NFL, as a PR nightmare unknown/untested punter, while admitting to having sex with a minor? Good luck homey. |

The NFL ended up going with Jets vs Dolphins for the Black Friday game, but NFL VP Mike North revealed that the Bengals approached the league and volunteered not only to host the 2023 Black Friday game but to make it an annual tradition for the Bengals.
I guess they wanted in on that sweet Thanksgiving week tradition spotlight. Edit: Mike North said that Amazon approached the league directly and said since the New York market is the largest retail market in the nation, an Amazon Black Friday New York game would be the best way to introduce the Black Friday concept. They also said divisional games just felt right for Thanksgiving week. They also considered Giants vs Eagles. |
