Guess I need to complain, looks like someone stole my supercharger.

The only upgrades are better cooling system and brakes.

The only way I could see them having a Hellcat is if they did a vehicle forfeiture and kept the car.

A 4cylinder diesel station wagon covered in a reflective, hivis checkerboard is fine by me!

Unmarked or ghost marked traffic enforcement vehicles are clearly intended for revenue generation.

Hallett is too small and tight for liter class bikes, much less taking the bus . The track is tiny, bikes rarely get past 3rd gear

ETA: NOT arguing with you they had their bikes at Hallett, just kind of pointless

Michigan traditional. The blue goes back to 1954 and the single red light goes back to 1957. The illuminated "shark fin" on the hood goes back to the 1940's.
Here's a couple paragraphs about them:

The MSP quit using bikes in 1942 during World War II, but they started putting the larger "Stop" placards on patrol car hoods around 1949. These placards had multiple uses: for side stops, just like in the old motorcycle days; for blockades, when troopers would block intersections with their cars to check for bank robbers (the hood signs made it unnecessary to keep red lights activated during daylight); and for nighttime response to investigations at homes

The Plexiglas "Stop" placards on Michigan State Police (MSP) patrol car hoods were originally an imitation of similar, smaller signs on the front fender of MSP motorcycles used for highway patrol in the 1920s-1930s. Back then, the motorcycle troopers often did "side stops," basically pulling up along a motorist to signal them to stop. The driver could look out their window and spot the "Stop" sign, even if the trooper was back a bit and hard to see.

2017 we had some "retro" cars in black with the 1930's stripes and shield on them to honor the 100th anniversary of the MSP.

I can see them from about a literal mile away.  I want NOTHING changed about the appearance of the MI State Police cars/trucks, ever.  Maybe they could add a music player like the Ice Cream Man.  That could help me find them even easier!

Can anyone explain why different "divisions" of the government are given such widely variable tools to do their jobs?

Sure, there are local, vs county, vs state, vs fed, but I see my mail person driving what must be a 70 horsepower shitwagon, with no anything.  They have no A/C, no radio, no digital dash, they don't seem to have emergency/safety lights.  People need their mail, it's how we get things like paychecks and do taxes.

The STANDARD for most police units are Tahoes, Charger R/Ts, and F150s with EVERYTHING.  GPS, climate control with AC, a functional radio/carplay, laptop, radio system, a huge V8, etc.  Every once in a while you'll find an even nicer car for DARE or a Street Racing task force, whatever.

Top speed slick was 149 according to MSP.  I hit 140 a couple of times during a pursuit in a charger and still had more left. But it isn't about the top end so much unless you live in an area that has long flat stretches.

That's where I backed off on the 2011 Camaro. Death seemed likely if I continued.
"Wide open" roads in the east get real small, real fast, at that speed.
It would do 94 in third gear. With three more to go.
I sold it, and kept the slow one. The slow one won't do 94 downhill in top gear. Although I did have it up to about 87 going UPHILL coming up from the New River on I-81. It blew up the differential. Which was exciting.

I got nabbed in a DUI sting on the 4th of july, MANY years ago.  Basically when they were brand new.

I was fine, got released, etc.  No tickets.

I asked the guy how fast he had taken it, and he claimed 155 MPH, with a little more to go.  Seems believable, depending on the gearing.

I had a 2015 Mustang GT 5.0 with every bolt on and tune you could do, short of forced induction.  It was the "older" model where 5th gear (manual) was the 1:1, and 6th was the only overdrive, but it also had the track pack, with the lower top speed 3.73 rear end (vs stock 3.55).  Speed limiter was removed, and rev limiter was pushed WAY up, around 7800 RPM.  It got too squirrely at high speeds, on imperfect roads, to actually figure out.

I had run it to 124MPH-ish, and that was only in 4th gear.  I suspect that with a healthy Coyote motor, and long tube headers, high flow cats, 3 inch cat back, a steeda intake, a palm beach dyno tune, a 2018+ intake manifold, and enough road, I could have passed 170 mph.  I might not have survived, but it could do it.

My dad had all kinds of cars from '72 to '99.
Some of the best stories though is the fact they couldn't bring a car home and have a patrol car until they bought their own car insurance on the patrol car.   Yes, thats right, a state trooper car that was yours to use for work but you had to buy the insurance.

Next was in the 90's when they got issued Chevy Caprice's that had governor limiters on them, his car wouldn't go over 95 mph.

Fun fact: The Troopers you spot on the Turnpikes are paid from the OTA (Oklahoma Turnpike Authority) budget and not from DPS (Department of Public Safety). Troopers are also assigned to the personal protection detail of Coach Gundy and Coach Venables on games days (home and away).

The town that I used to work for was known as a "speed trap"

There was a sign on the highway noting that the speed went from 55 to 45, then a quarter mile after, the actual speed sign. About a mile past that, there was a warning that the speed went from 45 to 35, then past that, the actual 35 speed sign. We (the agency) regularly gave people 15+ over the speed limit. I posted about it regularly here, in my threads when I did that sort of thing.

And we were a "speed trap"
