Yea, they were pretty much for parking and rocking with your hopefully Farrah Fawcett looking girlfriend, while listening to Zeppelin. Edit, I never had one, but my first girlfriend's dad had one - I thought it was the coolest fucking vehicle on earth. I made quite a few trips to the skating rink in it with her, but admittedly never "rocked" one . |
|
Yep, they were called rape vans. I even remember one with Star Wars stuff painted all over it.
|
|
The good old fuck truck...nope, got no recollection of those. None at all. Nope. Gonna stick to that story too.

With dirt-cheap gas prices, I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen a resurgence in their popularity.
Instead, I see yoots still driving around in Civics with fart-cans... |

Good Times vans.
Yeah, the coolest of the cool guys had them. Anywhere those vehicles showed up... PARTY ON! |
|
I ain't an older guy yet, but oh yeah... I remember the cool older guys had them.
You Had to have the requisite bumper sticker: ASS, GAS OR GRASS, NOBODY RIDES FOR FREE! |

There's a Chevy Shorty in my future. They're getting hard to find, though.

The windowless E-150 and 250 cargo vans we have at work are referred to as molester vans.
|

I really like vans, and I don't know why. Maybe its the mobile living quarters and space to haul stuff around?

I know a guy that still has his ra- I mean 70s van in his garage.
Lime green with shag carpet. This thing looks just like the pictures that were posted. I have no idea why he keeps it. I should try to snap some pics of it, it's hilarious. I grew up in the 80s and we assumed any van like that was a kidnapper. I still remember how we would all scatter and hide. It was common knowledge that if you saw the "blue van with the heart shaped window" you were getting kidnapped. |

View Quote Hahaha. OMG, my older sisters one boyfriend had a pinto wagon then a Ford van. I shit you not. The pinto caught on fire so he got the bitchin shagging wagon. I remember it was three on the tree. I didn't think anything of it at the time but I'll bet my parents just loved it when they saw him pull up in that van |

El Caminos and Rancheros also brought the party.
Room back there for a mattress and speakers / lights. Just ask Bill Clinton about that. |

My parents had a few full conversion vans. My neighbors subscribe to some van magazine answer would put them by the curb in stacks. I took them all, mostly because they had lots of half naked girls posing with the vans but some pretty amazing rides too.
I remember my uncle had a gloss black van with bright orange shag. That thing was a pimp wagon lol! |
|
My buddy's mom had the Pinto. It became his first car... appropriately... he was a weird dude. |
|
Our neighbor had a classy shaggin' wagon in royal blue. Strangely.. The interior reeked of seafood. |
|
My buddy had one like the 2nd pic in this thread but it was blue. This was in HS. It was like a rolling living room. Captains chairs, poker table, killer stereo. Pull off in the woods and par-taay..

|
I would rock a full size van like that if I could find one 4x4
|
|
Yup, had one.
Surfboards on the roof racks, bean bag chairs in the back and the cheerleader GF in the pax seat. Chevy 6 banger with 3 on the tree. Tuck and roll on the walls and (sorry to disappoint) regular short nap carpet on the floor (easier to sweep out beach sand). Did have extra padding under the carpet though. Pull in sideways at the drive-in and open the side doors to watch the show. Surprised the fire department didn't show up sometimes with the amount of smoke billowing out of the roof vent in back. Didn't have the airbrush paint scheme though (couldn't afford it.) |
|
Remember them well.........
There was a van in he next town that had the inside album cover art from Led Zeppelin IV painted on the sides. You know, the old wizard on the mountain holding up a lantern. Kind of cool. |

Everyone was fucking left and right, and there was no such thing as HIV. If I had to live one year forever it would be "76". I would have been 9 and ........Tube tops. I helped my oldest brother build his van in the summer of "77", a ford econoline 150. Helped him pick it up at the dealer and man was that big empty box loud inside. He already had some on the interior built and as soon as we got home we started in on it. It was paneled on three walls and a strip down the center of the ceiling where the wiring and such were routed. Benches over the rear wheel wells and a sofa/futon like pull down bench/bed. He had a guy that just came from Cali and was looking to make a name locally as a custom painter do up the outside with all kinds of different techniques to show his work and my brother got a huge discount on the work. Him and two friends would take their vans out to just about anywhere and people would gather around like a mini car show. |

A very good friend who is now deceased had a 1960's flat nose GMC van painted like the flag.
Had a lot of fun in those days growing up. Best looking van at our high school. |
