It took 108 years to finally wear her down. I posted the top picture in Hawaii Hometown on her 106th Birthday.
She is survived by 5 children, 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 37 great great grandchildren, and 2 great great great grandchildren!
She remembered when Waikiki was nothing but trees and sand. She was 25 yrs young during the attack on Pearl Harbor. She told us countless stories of how life on the islands used to be.
She fed us fresh seafood that she caught by hand, fed us like little birds all sitting at her feet while we camped at the beach. This is one of my oldest and fondest memories.
She was on a softball team well into her 80's!
She never forgot any of the kids names, lol. She lovingly asked about all of them and she kept a photo album of ALL of us. A sort of family tree that we've been relying on to educate our kids about who their family is.
Her secret? 1 beer a year! I had a picture of her having a beer on her 105th Bday but I can't find it.
Her passing was not tragic. Every year was a cause to celebrate and we did! Every year since she was 90 we had a reason to bring all of our children together to honor 'Puna' and for them to meet their family. However, we are all saddened that her time has come but we comfort ourselves in knowing that she is at rest.
She's watching over us as 2 more great great great grandchildren came into this world since she passed. She got to see them first.

Wow amazing 108! I’m jealous you had her for so long. My grandmother passed 14 years ago at 82 and it killed me emotionally. I still think about her every day
My condolences to you and your family

Sounds like she had one hell of a life and a lot to be proud of.

Edit - I'm 37 and still have a great grandmother

My grandma (mom's mom) passed at 104 years old.  She fell and broke her neck.  She was in the hospital less that 24 hours and died due to a blood clot.

Yeah, Wikiki wasn't anything much prior to 1942-43 on Oahu.

Condolences OP but she had a good run.

I was there for a surf classic on North Shore December of 1980.

Hawaii is one of, or used to be one of the greatest places on earth.

The feel is unique to any other place on the planet.

The whole ball of wax.

Edit: Did she like Don Ho OP?

Koa: Sorry to hear that  For you younger people, listen to what the older generation has to say, they are speaking from first hand experience. It is so boring reading it from a history book.

Wow!

Reading that, i can only offer congratulations and condolences. The former as envy for you having that incredible woman as a giant shade tree in your family's lives. The latter is obvious.

Did you ever ask her if she felt that life as it was in her childhood was better, or worse, than what her great grandchildren will experience?
